For years I have wanted a old, funky Gretsch Country Gentleman hollowbody guitar with original filtertron pickups-if it was good enough for George Harrison, its good enough for me.

Harrison's first Gretsch was a 1957 6128 Dou Jet, black with silver pickguard. This is the guitar he recorded Please Please Me with, he played in Hamburg and at the Cavern until spring 1963. Years later his luthier Roger Giffin went through the 6128 and installed a DeArmond pickup, this is the guitar George played on "Cloud 9".

In 1963 he bought a 6131 Jet Fire Bird, which he used for a short time, then in May '63 he bought a 6122 Country Gentleman in walnut finish and gold hardware. He removed the mutes, this is the guitar he is seen playing when they did the Royal Command concert. This guitar was stolen but recovered, on Dec 2 1965 the Beatles limo hit a bump and the guitar (which was lashed to the trunk lid) fell onto the road and was smashed.

In 1963 when his 6131 was at Sound City for repairs he picked up a 6122 Country Gentleman, this is the one he played on the first Ed Sullivan show.

Also in 1963 he bought a 6119 Tennessean (a '62), this model had the painted on F-holes, this is the guitar he used on the "For Sale" sessions and on the road through 1965, he used it at Shea Stadium and on some tracks of Sarg Peppers. This guitar disappeared from the Abbey Road Studios.

A little trivia I find interesting, George did not use a Gibson until one of the members of the Moody Blues loaned him his ES-354-TD in 65 when his Gretsch was smashed on the road way., he used it on Daytripper and We Can Work It Out. He didn't use a Epiphone Casino E230TD until 1966. Shortly after he bought the Epi he also bought a 1964 Gibson SG Standard in cherry red w/Maestro Vibrola, he used this guitar on Hey Bulldog and Lady Madonna. Harrison gave this guitar to Pete Hamm, it was used on No Matter What and on Baby Blue. Just before Pete committed suicide he left it at his brothers house, it was given to the Rock and Roll HoF in 2001 and is displayed there still.

I gotta say I DO love my Squire Tele :)

Good idea Aster, that whole electric 12 string thing.... I should check those out....

Not sure how I missed the blue Strat first time through... The Lucern Aqua Firemist looks nice, too!

And yeah, SG, you're right. Strings and picks until there's no cash left!
