The ultimate closet find

Very interesting. I read the article in a paper a while back. It would be cool if Dylan or his lawyer would show what they say is the guitar.

If you watch the show when they replay it, the give away that this is the real deal is that inside the case along with the guitar were several pages of lyrics written by Dylan, a hand writing expert checked it out and verified it.

The other pilot that flew the aircraft verified it.

One of the roadies verified it.

Then the guitar collector verified it.

I am sure he had more than 1 Strat and they may be authentic hand written lyrics in the case but how do you verify that it is the one he used onstage at Newport. I am a big fan of Dylan and he would never admit it even if it was true. The ax looks like it is in mint condition so how can you tell? SRV or Blackie have so many marks on it that it makes it easier but this one? IDK.

Is it the same one on the pic on the back cover of Highway 61? Who knows? Who really cares?

The guitar tech matched the stripes in the rosewood finger board and the lines in the grain of the wood in the oictures of Dylan on stage to the guitar, the date on the neck matches, a hand writing specialist said it is a match. I would think the lyrics would think sell for more. But have you seen the price of vintage '64 Strats?

All these singers of the time had numerous guitars when on the road. The Everlys certainly did as Phil was regularly breaking strings. He would throw his J-180 like a javelin about 15 yards to a roadie and pick up one of the 'spares' from the stand. Orbison had at least 2 ES-335's each slightly different. I am sure Dylan had more than one of these. Of course, would he remember anyway, if you know what I mean. I am convinced this is his. How cool is that. Can you imagine if Cochran's Gretsch was not returned when found in the boot (that is 'trunk' for our friends over the 'Pond'). This is the thing of dreams.

We just watched that History Detectives last week. I thought the few pictures that existed of that day showed a guitar with a noticeably different sunburst. But that was just me. Dylans peoples let her know she needs to return it. Interesting if they go back on that one and see what turns out, as of the show she had not responded. Once provenance is determined, the original owner will always win in court. Just a guitar to him, he has always been vaguely not attached to the instruments, the song is a picture of how it is today and who played on it and what they used, and will never be the same twice is kinda his way. The lyric sheets are probably the most valuable part, his folks would want those for certain.

Love that show.
