BTD
I am curious of others opinion on inlays on the 1st fret. I love the block inlays, but for some reason, I would prefer them to start on the third, not the first. My preference, others thoughts?
BigKahune
. No preference - if there's one fine; if there's not one that's fine too. .
eljay
i use to feel that way. the trap inlays on lesters start at the third fret and i'm accustomed to that. but, once i got guitars with block inlays at the first fret i warmed up to that config quite a lot. Mark2
I totally agree with you. I like block inlays, but wish the first fret inlay on my Midtown Custom wasn't there. I guess I'll eventually get used to it, but I liked how the first block on my SG was on the 3rd fret, not the first fret.
bobouz
I generally prefer having block inlays start on the first fret.
Danny W.
I hate it when they don't start at the first fret! Danny W.
BTD
Thanks for the thoughts. I am sure once I get used to it, it won't bother me. It is just after so many years of playing guitars without anything in the first fret, when I sneak a peak down at the neck when I'm playing, it throws me off a little bit. BigKahune
. Actually, I've got a couple of guitars with no fret markers, just side dots, which is what I reference when playing. Here's one: 24 frets, no markers, just side dots -
JO'C
. Actually, I've got a couple of guitars with no fret markers, just side dots, which is what I reference when playing. I feel the same way. First or third doesn't matter to me. I'm only looking at the dots on the top. I tend to think of inlays as something for the people watching you play to look at, or bling. JimR56
Most of the guitars I've owned have had inlays beginning at the first fret. I prefer that look, which generally (traditionally) went more hand in hand with higher-grade models. When I'm playing, I do look at the inlays to help guide me (and I've been more aware of that since getting my first classical guitar after 35 years of playing), but I never get lost down near the nut anyway, regardless of whether there's an inlay at the first fret or not. vincentw
I prefer a fancy fretboard inlay to start on the first fret.
