onewilyfool Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Are there any 12.5 to say.....54.5 sets of strings out there??? Say somwhere between light and medium????
grampa Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I recently put some Martin Marquis "lights" on a guitar and they seemed heavier than normal lights. I don't remember the guages but the high string was .12. I don't like them because they're too heavy for me but may be what you want.
Jerry K Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Try John Pearse New Medium. A lot of the makers have similar sets.

onewilyfool Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 Hey Gearbasher.....thanks, thats the ticket!!!
bs Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I always thought 12s were considered medium lights. Shows what I know.
powerpopper Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I have a set of Martin Acoustic SP's on my desk right now that are Light/Medium and are .0125-.055. I'm going to try them out later.
nid2007 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 D'Addario EJ-19 Bluegrass--medium up top, lights on the bottom
news36 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I have been using Martin SP pb Light Mediums, 12 - 55s, I really like them, sometimes hard to find in the shops.
glynsong Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Curt Mangan strings offer phosph & 80/20 brz in sets of custom mix of your liking. I've been useing ther 80/20/brz ,12,17,24,w32,44,56 on both my J45's and luvum, you get the strong brilliance in the trebles from a med set and the bit more supple feel of lights in the middle, which makes it very comfortable playing bar and full chords further up the neck where the tension and higher clearance can some times be a challenge for extended playing.
albertjohn Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 I think the Martin Acoustics SPs are the ones with the bronze coloured plain strings. If so, they're really great strings and good value over on this side of the pond. I'm a 12 guage man myself on the 6er and 10s on the 12er.
GibbyJoe Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 hey thanks. I am going to try out those bluegrass string the medium to light ones. That's the trouble I have with mediums because the upper strings kill my fingers playing lead. Maybe those will work better. I have been trying different strings for over a year now and I still haven't found the right ones.
TWilson Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Elixer Nanowebs also have a set that they actually call Medium-Lights.
peiplayer Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 GibbyJoe, you might try Newtones. Since I discovered them early this year I’ve used nothing else on my J45. Great sound, sort of “old timey”, they last about a month and are slightly less tension than other strings. I use Newtone Master Class light (12 -54) and find that there is plenty kick to the bass and the trebles ring out much more than my previous string of choice Martin SPs. Haven’t tried the mediums, but since the tension is a bit less, might be what you’re looking for.
fortyearspickn Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 I never tire of string questions.... doesn't Marlboro sell Medium Lights?
