Hi there. I bought this guitar in 1998, I have just rescued it from the basement. I'm concerned about the shape of the headstock and the serial number. The shape doesn't match with other epiphones, and the serial starts with a "Y", I can't find any factory code correspoding to that. I attach a picture with two lines drawn showing the actual shape of the head and the usual one. The serial is: Y6111379

I apreciate any help identifying it [thumbup]

^^We have similar guitar series, mine was made in 1996 with a serial Y6112463 in a factory which is still not in the database (I think yours is made the same year as mine in the same factory but a bit earlier).

Mine seems to be original Epiphone as it has "USED" stamp in the back of the headstock and I'm pretty sure yours is not fake as well but I'll let more knowledgable folks chim in. As for the head shape, mine is the same, nothing really wrong with it IMO. :)

Hey guys!

I am going to buy a used LP Studio, and everything is fine, only I'm a bit concerned about the serial: B01212530. As my research suggests, it was made in the Czech Republic, in 2001, and here comes the tricky part: 21st month?

Am I missing something? Is this a possibly fake guitar? Please help me to get my first ever LP, I'm so excited!

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a used Epiphone from a cash converter type store.

The seller and pictures say its an Epiphone SG G400 Pro CH. The seller says its serial number is 11101511144 which would make made in October 2011 but the Unofficial Wikipedia page provides "2012 to 2014", is that years of sale/availability/manufacturing?. Could they have built them in the year before they went on sale? What chance that it is a fake? I cannot find any information as to when they started to make them.

Many thanks in advance,

Daniel

the serial number looks ok. I wouldn't hold too much stock on the "2012-2014"...they still make this model in 2015. probably not a fake.

Just trying to confirm my research.

I believe what I have is a 2009-10 Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute made in China (although the Guitar Dater Project lists it as Fuji-gen Japan).

Serial F303735.

Hopefully someone here can help confirm/deny my findings.

correct. it's made in China. the serial number is meant to replicate the 60's sn (as a Tribute)

Okay experts, here's some fresh meat.

I bought it last year. Much of it is after market add ons. Tuners, bridge, saddle, all after market. I myself had it freshly rewired with new pick ups, so really about all that's left and original is the wood.

I figure it's a 1992 but dater project doesn't recognize it as a genuine serial number.

The guitar has aged very nicely, the original frets are still on there with the original nibs intact and the 5 piece neck sets it all off with a touch of class. Aside from that, the beast plays and now sounds incredible.

Any info would be considered helpful, and thanks.

Hi, I just picked up this Epiphone Dot - the S/N label has a label over it and I can't seem to date it or where it was made.

The S/N is 311562883

Any info would be appreciated.

it's a factory refurbished guitar that was repaired or refurbished by a company in Tennessee called MIRC.

Well that explains it - bummer, I don't think I can get that sticker off to see what was under it.

Thanx for the info!!

Man I am the threadkiller of all time. msp_sad.gif

If anyone could help us identify the Epiphone pictured above, we'd appreciate it.

Pretty clean except the MIRC "Used" stamp hints at the source of repair seam on back of guitar body (no neck involvement).

it's a Dot. without the Epiphone serial number; it will be hard to find out where or when it was made.

To be frank, I think trying to identify a MIRC guitar is heading up a dead-end street.

My understanding is the company refurbish guitars from many manufacturers which do not consider the guitar is of adequate quality for dealer distribution. So MIRC get them relatively cheaply, bring them up to spec, renumber them to avoid the impression they are actual factory guitars.

When the AUD$ v US$ was in my favour, I bought three (oops, an edit. It was actually four) MIRC units from various overseas GCs. None of the guitars had any faults and play beautifully. From my perspective, they were excellent buys and that is THE issue. The actual manufacturing history of the guitar is secondary in my view. I certainly would consider buying another if the opportunity arose.

Hey y'all,

I've got a casino I've been trying to dig up information on. Here is the serial number:

Casino CH

R94P2946

I believe this indicates that it's an MIK/Peerless from 1994. This makes sense...I got it new in 1995. I'm just confused by the month code. I've seen other mentions of P month codes in this thread, but never an explanation of what it means. Does anyone know?

Thanks,

Gary
