  1. Sounds like buyers remorse ? Just keep playing your guitar ,this is an information age ...research is a finger tip away ,but....playing the instrument is the key . Do your research ,then go out and play as many as you can get your hands on ...they all have different personalities .
  2. That is a great way to enjoy the voicing of your preferred instrument Dave ,i wholeheartedly agree . I often pass mine along in a jam setting .
  3. 5 years off the smokes for me ...15 -17.50 a pack here in Ontario Canada...gotta pay for our great health care system some how ! I use liberal amounts of Arm and Hammer baking soda ...then take to the gas station and use their 2 dollar vacuum ...works like a charm and baking soda is cheap lol.
  4. Hey , what kind of heat source do you have in your home ? going from 70 percent to 20 percent in a couple of weeks sounds like you have way to much air extraction and dry air heat source, like a wood stove and a dehumidifier blasting away .? Baseboard heat is very dry as well . Boil water for tea , make a nice homemade soup from stock ,double down on you boiled potatoes ...get some moisture back in the air . It`s not rocket science ,,,perhaps it is lol If you heat with wood ,have a kettle on it , good luck .
  5. Great picture of Keith Richards with Gram ...Keith`s looking for a Stone unturned ...or a lost hit of smack . Gibson sure did put out custom orders back then with out a doubt . The control knobs don`t look period correct but ....they appear to be off an electric Gibson. I bet it sounded great ...is it known to be on a particular recording ?
  6. I swapped out my Gibson Deluxe tuners on a 1994 Gibson j 45 for a set of Grover's ....awesome....no drilling or enlarging of holes and the elimination of a bushing only adds to the stability of the system . No more B string pain in the tuning arse . I will most always take function over fashion !
  7. I owned a 1965 cherry burst lg1 narrow neck with the 1 9 16 nut ..very limited voice, blues only ..sold it ...made some money . Funny ,when a guitar just does not get ya going ,the dude i sold it to loves it ...so i did the right thing ...let er go . When shes a dandy , dont let it go
  8. It has open gear tuners ..Kluson mfg co . P.A.F. Chicago Illinois stamped . Stamp is located around the middle string post ,and you need to remove the 3 on a plate to read it . There is no cover what so ever over any of the gears . Hope this adds clarification . Thank you for your knowledge and help in refining when my j 45 was built . I hope with the above info you can narrow date down to perhaps 12 months .
  9. Thank you , nut width 1.71 ....no stamp on neck block , i have examined with flash light ,glasses ,and a mirror ,only 2 pencil marks each inch and a half long roughly .on block end . The neck block has no angled cuts on it ...it is a cube
  10. Thanks for fast reply ...she has popsicle side stays , ,,,,open back tuners , Kluson ..pat applied for . Does that help narrow the year down ? Feed back good .
  11. Well i am late to the conversation by a year but///....I just bought a one owner J 45 bought by a man in April 1950 ...no serial number ..no F.O.N ...and a rectangular 1940`s saddle . I think it is a 1948- 49 ..Non script logo instrument ...how do i find out the year for sure ... it`s a mystery i.m.o ...She`s been played hard ...repaired cracks and bruises BUT ...best sounding flat top i ever played .... Anyone with info on solving the 1947 to 1949 non FON guitars feedback would be awesome .
