  1. FYP.... I LOVE my Tobacco-Burst Dove and I LOVE my Honey-Burst 'Bird.
  2. I'm guessing HE doesn't think HE has too much money. I agree....I'd rather give up a job that pays more each year than most people make in 10 and enjoy what's left of my life, (which is exactly what I did). But, that's MY choice....no one else's.
  3. Who's place is it to tell someone that they've made too much money? Sounds like Socialism/Communism to me. I say make what you can....it's no one's business but you and your heirs.
  4. 50 years ago I was on a Bomb Squad out of Fort Meade, MD, (actually stationed in Chambersburg, PA).... trying to get myself out of the Army... I finally accomplished that on May 17, 1971... then I drove across the US in my Volkswagen in just over 3 days, (spent the night in Reno before driving home to the SF Bay Area the next day). The Stones did some great work. I saw them in '65 and '66 with Jones still there....and my son took me to see them on my 70th Birthday in 2019!
  5. That's probably what I like about him! Ya gotta face it....without Simmons there would BE one KISS.
  6. WF.... I'm sure I've told this story before...but I worked in a music store....from '65 thru '67. We got a Hummingbird in. I don't remember the price...but I played it often...and lusted over it....and could have gotten it for the store cost.... but I had no money then. But...even a BIGGER regret is that we took in an old Gibson Gold Top....not in great shape....the manager put it in the broom closet.... one of my jobs was to mop up every night. I saw it in the closet...and asked him about it. He said he paid $13 as a trade-in and I could buy it from him for $13. Well, I said I'd pay him when I got my check. I got my check.....got $13 and took it to him...he said he didn't know I was that interested in it, so he sold it to a guitar teacher there for $13!
  7. Fantastic! Post photos when it's done...and post some videos of you playing it! As I've said here dozens of times, I'm not big on the red 'Birds, or even the Doves.... I LOVE the 'Honey-Burst like this one is....(my 'Bird 12-String is that same burst color).
  8. Pretty quiet in here. I recorded this the other day.... Rhonda Vincent just KILLS this song!
  9. Seems like a VERY good deal to me...a Montana 'Bird for $2K.... good condition? Plays well? Sounds like it should?
  10. I have to admit...I was never a KISS fan, although I like Gene Simmons....I doubt I could name even one of their songs..... I think they came out in the late 70's or early 80's, right? I was DONE with music during those years..... I started playing again (with earnest) maybe mid-to-late 80's.
  11. Well, BK...you seem like the guy with the answers! The way I mounted my mic it's easy to move around....so far, I kinda like where it is....but I can easily move it. Post some stuff with you playing your various guitars. I have HUNDREDS of videos up on YouTube using all 11 of mine, (including the P-Bass, both pianos and the Loar Mandolin)....so anyone can listen to my stuff anytime. I made a commitment to post EVERY song I do or have done for my very young grandsons, (who will inherit all my instruments one day). I want them to be able to relate the guitar to their grandpa! So, I'm recording some stuff now I haven't played in over 25 years....it's actually a blast! Bob
  12. Yeah.... at my age my "strummy bits" at set on 'slow waltz' anyway! After my luthier put in the mic, it came loose.... I remounted it using industrial-strength velcro, and it's secure now....but I don't have it right up in the middle of the sound hole....it's back towards the bass bout just behind the sound hole....should I move it?
  13. Yes... Leslie kept this guitar in "New" condition, but hanging on the wall, (or in a stand)....so the earthquake knocked it over...and of course, we all know how easy the headstocks can be bro ken. So she sent it back to Gibson. She told me this guitar is the ONLY Right-Hand Hummingbird 12-String made in 2010.....and it's well worth saving.
  14. Nick, I have a good luthier I really trust...but for the 'finished work' not sure you can beat the Gibson shop. My old Jubilee was TRASHED..... I gave it to him to reinforce the top so it'd be playable again...and he did, but he certainly didn't make it look new. The 'Bird 12-String literally looks new.
  15. Not sure if any of you have ever had Gibson make any repairs to your instruments. Leslie's 2010 Hummingbird 12-String got the headstock broken off in the big Napa earthquake. She had Gibson repair it, (NOT a neck replacement). When I was thinking of buying it...I could not find the repair..... it's there...but you have to REALLY look for it. They did a wonderful job. This guitar is the best playing 12-String I've ever had in my hands.....I've made over 100 recordings with it....and I'm sure Leslie would love to have it back!
  16. So cool, Russ...but.... I wish you were someone else! Just kidding.... An honor to meet you.
  17. VERY nice! I'll bet the girls LOVE your "Strummy Bits"! I have played the Trinity with a mono cable.... it sounds just fine.... I think the pick-up system, (having multiple pick up points) makes it sound more 'natural'. I thought about the batteries.... I have a stash of 9V batteries...but I'll have to pick up more at Costco. My finger-picking is weak (at best). I've done a couple of songs that really require finger-picking....but I weenied-out and did them on the 12-String, (Freight Train & Dust In The Wind). I really HAD to finger pick on "Time In A Bottle"....but it's simply NOT my strength, (even though I LOVE the sound of a good finger-picker). I wonder why no one posts in the Acoustic Performances much?
  18. Thanks, BK. I really like the dimension the harmonizer adds. I suck at harmony...so this is a plus! I added the "Aye-Yi-Yi-Yi in between each verse just to make the song flow, (to my ear). When I get earworms, I usually just learn and record the song! This song is easy...here are my charts for it. (I have to use 2 pages because my eyesight requires the writing be fairly large these days: By the way...I have ALL my charts up on Facebook if anyone is interested....free for the taking....probably more than 350 charts there. I have the mic on about 7 and the pickups on about 8-9. I have volume controls on the amp and the PA so I can adjust to what I like. I'm still playing with it. I'm thinking of putting this same system on my old Dove, (I won't touch the DIF or the 'Bird Custom Koa) The 12-String came with a pickups in it... I don't know what brand..... I'll have to get a mirror and find out one day. I won't bother with pickups in the Jubilee...I have a sound-hole pickup I might mount permanently in it. I had to remount the mic in the J-50....is was kinda hokey... I put in a strip of industrial Velcro and the mic had one side with double-sided tape and the other with Velcro....now it's secure! I mostly just play in the music room.... I don't play out much anymore, (my last gig got cancelled about 2 hours before my start due to COVID restrictions by the County...maybe 4 months ago). Bob
  19. Thanks, Jinder.... coming from you that's a REAL compliment! I heard South Of The Border a couple of days ago. I was AMAZED that I never noticed what a absolute jewel of a song it is.... I nearly choke up when I sing it....one a foolish lost love because of his need to wander, the other becomes a nun because of he ran out on her....truly a wonderful song. I use the Helicon H-2. I really like it....if you play the guitar THROUGH IT, it tracks the key and does the appropriate harmony. You can also select the key you wish. Also, you can set it for a third above, a third below, a fifth above, a fifth below...and all the combinations...plus you can adjust the amount of harmony you want. I felt for a couple hundred bucks it was cheap.
  20. I was looking for a good pick up for my old J-50. Forum Member, Krasi, told me he uses the K & K Trinity system. If it makes me sound half as good as Krasi sounds, it'd be a good deal! I had it installed on my guitar, but I didn't have a stereo cable. I got a cable, so I feed the guitar through my amp, (Princeton Reverb), and fed the mic through my Fender Passport 300 Pro PA system. I think the system sounds great....but the guitar playing didn't seem to improve...and the mic didn't help my singing whatsoever! Anyway here are two songs I recorded this morning. Just an FYI for the youngin's.... "Gay" in 1939 doesn't mean what it means today!
  21. Thanks.... I have Klusons on my old Jubilee, (three on a bracket) and they don't present a problem for me.... I guess the ones on the J-50 (single tuners) were just worn out).
  22. While the old Kluson tuners held the guitar in tune, I couldn't twist them with my left hand. Was a real struggle to try to tune using my right hand to twist the tuners. These Grovers are a dream now.... plus they look great!
