  1. I changed the Kluson tuners on my J-50 to some Grovers I had laying around, (the old Kluson's were binding up and made it hard for me to turn the guitar with my arthritis. I had my luthier do it....it did require some reaming out of the mounting holes....but the guitar is a 1975 model, so it doesn't have a lot of value. I'm very happy with the final results.
  2. If the 'Bird floats your boat, I doubt you'd be happy with an Epi. Also, the used 'Birds are sometimes (often) much better because they've had time to age. If you're looking to 'upgrade' then you have to know you're going to be spending some bucks. I'll just tell you....like Whitefang, I played a 'Bird back in '65 or so when I worked at a music store..... the guitar simply captured me.... I lusted after one for many years, and told my new wife in 1978 that my 'dream guitar' was a Gibson Hummingbird. In 1980, she (somehow) gathered up enough to go to Music Unlimited (a local store here in the SF Bay Area) and bought me a Gibson Dove. She remembered I lusted after a Gibson guitar that was some kind of bird.....so a Dove seemed right to her. I still have that guitar and that wife...never been sorry she switched me to a Dove ILO a Hummingbird! As my dad said, you'll have $$ come and go through your hands and you won't remember what you bought with it....but if you get the exact guitar you love, you'll never regret it.
  3. My brother, who plays at the "Red Dog Saloon" in Virginia City (I think), asked me about my chart book...he said he carries about 40 songs in his head.... plays them differently all the time. I'd be as nervous as a hore (Sp!) in Church if I went into a gig with no 'cheat-sheet" (even if it's "just in case".
  4. White...I'm so sorry to hear this.... what a blessing that she was in your life. I know in my head that ALL relationships must end....but in my heart, I dread that day, (unless I go first...then all bets are off!). I'm sure she's in a better place and you'll see her again.
  5. For sure, we both got lucky (smart?) with our second wives. My wife (43 years) saved my life....I'm certain I'd be dead or in a corner somewhere trying to control my drool without her. My wife's mother taught me a great deal about money, sometimes I think she loved me more than my own mother! My wife is the night person.... she probably goes to sleep at 12 or 1 AM....I'm to bed and asleep before 10....I get up about 5 AM and have my mornings to myself..... we've been in lockdown for over a year, and we've never even gotten in each other's way once! Congratz, Notes that you found the perfect Mrs. Notes!
  6. My deal was that I had about 150 songs I'd played and were in my chart book. But, when I was asked to play, it was always the same 20 or so songs. Because my young grandsons will inherit all my guitars (and other paraphernalia), I wanted to video all the songs in my chart book, (the charts will be helpful for them to learn the songs), so about 1-1/2 years ago I started recording every song in the book.... finished all those pretty quickly..... so I added some songs I'd heard recently and liked..... then found an OLD chart book that had songs I'd put in there, and maybe did once...or never actually put an arrangement together, (the charts are actually just the 'bones' of a song). I'm not sure how many songs are in this old book that never got into the current chart book, and I don't want to know..... when I finish one song, I turn the page..... if I've already recorded it...I turn the page again....if not, it's the next song I record.
  7. Something I recorded today, (yes...those are pajama pants). As you all know, I'm recording all the songs in my repertoire, and and now recording songs that I found in an old chart book that's been put away for 25-30 years. Guess I'm into the "Alabama" section because yesterday I recorded "My Home's In Alabama".
  8. Well....we called those "Groupies".... and unfortunately, I married one.....when I got out of music....she remained a "Groupie" (if you know what I mean).
  9. THAT'S IT!!!!!! So it WAS A Farfisa after all!
  10. Roadies are a good thing! (we had them...but back then we called them "Band-Aids").
  11. Thanks.... I was surprised there were so many too once I counted them, (I have a spreadsheet of all the videos I've posted on YouTube (for my grandsons). I just added "My Home's In Alabama" yesterday.... which brought the total to 376 videos. The spreadsheet lists the song, the guitar/instrument used and a link to the video.... they're sorted in alphabetical order of the song title...but can easily be sorted by instrument!
  12. I simply LOVE her voice! I think it's the truest female voice in music....I can't think of another female voice I'd rather hear.
  13. I simply don't know.... I recall as a kid in the SF Bay Area...there were "War Birds" in the sky almost all the time. I even recall jets flying very high breaking the sound barrier! (I think they restricted that to areas not populated very quickly).
  14. I bought a 'Bird 12-String from a Forum member several years ago. I've recorded over 100 songs on it so far! One song not mentioned that requires a 12-String is "The Seekers" song "Another You". No better voice in popular music than Judith Durham's.....but I'll expose you to mine:
  15. Not sure.... you'll recall they had the HUGE blimp hanger there....you could see it from Highway 101. I know the Navy base is long gone, as are Hunter's Point, Mare Island, Alameda Naval Air Station, Treasure Island, Oak Knoll Naval Hospital....all of which we used to play, (I've probably forgotten a few).
  16. That's the only photo I have....I know our keyboard guy played a VOX organ.....and I recall the Farfesia Organs were grey....so I don't recognize this one.
  17. I can't ID this organ...I do know it sounded pretty cheezy.... This girl only played one or two gigs with us....we knew she simply didn't 'fit'. This was taken at the Officer's Club at Moffett Field, probably in 1965.
  18. A beautiful tribute... you must have been a good friend. RIP, Eddie.
  19. Reminds me an old photo I saw at my friend's memorial service. Was a photo of my friend's father standing next to an Orangutan... on the back of the photo it said, "Here I am Malaysia next to a monkey...(I'm on the right)"
  20. So... basically you're saying COVID IS like a 'bad flu"!
  21. Methinx you make a distinction without a difference. Since the flu is caused by a Virus.... the COVID illness is also caused by a virus....So there's that. When I was sick with COVID....it FELT like the flu.... the only reason I know it was COVID is because my son was tested positive (and he was sick first).
