  1. 01GT eibach, (do people call you "01" for short?), I'm not complaining.... but I've lived in Danville when I was 45 and I've lived in Danville with I was 71,,..45 is better!
  2. Best thing anyone can do to improve is to play with others. They don't have to be better than you, or worse than you....EVERYONE brings something to the table. I don't get the chance to play with others much anymore....(and my playing shows it). I recognize my limitations of playing by myself, (Timing, for one).
  3. I'm having the K&K Trinity Pro System installed on my old J-50 right now. Forum member, Krasi swears by them, and I only WISH I could play like he does! I'll probably get the guitar back sometime next week. If I like it, I'll probably the same pickup on my old Dove. (won't have to buy another preamp).
  4. What I want that I don't have is youth. I wouldn't want to live forever here on earth.... but being able to get up out of a chair without making animal noises would be nice.
  5. It was a different time then.... the majority of the country was against the war...and as it turns out..... @69K died; @250K were injured, and MILLIONS have died since from Agent Orange....and South Vietnam STILL became communist, (much like we're doing today).
  6. I'm not sure I've ever seriously thought about how I might pass. I used to kid about getting caught by a jealous husband....but I've got such an exceptional wife and life, I can't even kid about that anymore. I just know I would like to see my grandkids graduate high school, at least, I'd be close to 90 by then. I can't complain.... I've lived a life FAR better than I deserve.
  7. So sorry for your loss. I hope we all get 102 years. I know how painful it is to lose a friend, (pet) especially after 15 years. We were breeders, exhibitors, judges of dogs for 25 years..... since 2019 we lost 4 dogs....was very painful.
  8. Lars, thanks for your service....and welcome home Brother! Those were bad times. I hope you had a good life since this incident.
  9. I have two 'Birds. 1. 2011 - Custom Koa 2. 2010 - 12-String The Koa I bought brand-new in 2011.... after 10 years it's coming into it's own. The 12-String I bought from fellow Forum Member Leslie, a few years ago. I love them both. Still wish I had a standard Hummingbird....but I simply have no space for another guitar. Looking through my photos, I realize I don't have any photos of the back of the Koa, (which is beautiful). I'll take some next time I bring it out.
  10. Not sure if this is what you're looking for.... just me singing (I apologize) and my DIF. I have to admit, my Dove doesn't sound as good....but it sounds very good for a 1979 model. I kinda like the long scale, it's on my Dove, DIF and J-50. Short scale on my 'Bird and 'Bird 12-String.... I can actually feel the difference in my arms. Anyway, give a listen....no electronics other than my iPhone.
  11. They tend to dampen the tone of the guitar.
  12. No...but then, I don't think it's right to use people for pick guards.....you should use plastic.
  13. I left Fremont in 1971..... I don't recall Ell Burro.... we used to frequent La Fuente.
  14. I grew up in Fremont.... but left shortly after I got out of the Army. I lived in Castro Valley for maybe 12/14 years before moving to Danville for the last 26 years.
  15. Here's my single contribution to Mandolin.
  16. I remember you, Stein. I used to have an Ovation 12-String.... it had a rounded back....and as I got older I got a rounded front..... so pretty soon when I played it, I looked much like T-Bone Walker! Anyway, I too was missing from the Forum for years.... glad to see you're back.
  17. Some of the old-timers know me, the newer members do not. I thought this recording of a TV show best introduces me to people. I've been a Gibson Acoustic owner since about 1973/1974. I rarely play out anymore, but I do make a lot of recordings I post on YouTube for my grandsons. I want them to be able to relate the equipment they'll inherit back to their grandpa, (they're WAY too young to know what's going on now).
  18. 'Cause I'm just a country boy at heart:
  19. I wish I had as pleasant a voice as you have! The 'Bird was Leslie's....she was generous enough to let me have her a few years ago. I simply LOVE it Not just the nicest playing 12-String I've ever picked up, but it's as easy to play as a high-end 6-String! I had actually put several John Prine songs together prior to his passing.... He was truly one of the greats!
  20. Al, Funny how I ended up with my first Dove. I worked in a music store back in the 60o's. We got in a Hummingbird...and I'd play it whenever there were no customers in the store.....and fell in love with it! Well, years later, when we were first married, I told my wife this story.....so when we were poor as church mice, she gathered up enough money to buy me a guitar. She knew it had to be a Gibson, and she knew it was some kind of bird model. She went to a place called Music Unlimited.... and told them what she wanted.....and they sold her a Dove. Maple, not Mahogany; Long scale, not short scale..... but I loved it.... still my favorite guitar....means so much that she sacrificed to buy it for me.
