My 1952 Gibson LG1 is back! Monster's back!
egoidealmusic replied to BluesKing777's topic in Gibson Acoustic
Nice! That's a tremendous crack repair. Maybe it's the photos, but it looks as if it was totally refinished in that area. Bet it feels good to have it home. -
50s J50 Adirondack…the saga continues…holy moly
egoidealmusic replied to rbpicker's topic in Gibson Acoustic
Yes, good for you! Can't wait to see pics and hear a clip. Congrats! Finding the one is a magical moment. -
You want one for the same reason as I want you to post a link if they're selling another...sounds fantastic.

Maybe it's just my computer but I can't see any picture.

Good comparison of a (new) 50s J-45 and a J-45 Standard
egoidealmusic replied to egoidealmusic's topic in Gibson Acoustic
The second half of the video is the actual acoustic sound where I think you can tell a difference. As folks have talked about before the big 50s chunky neck is a pretty noticable difference. Now if that accounts for a difference in sound I guess is still up for debate. -

J-45 or LG-2 To Accompany Deeper Vocals?
egoidealmusic replied to jellyrohl's topic in Gibson Acoustic
I'd definitley suggest the J-45. I've also got a really low singing voice and it contrasts poorly with too bright a guitar, which is why I went for th J-45 in the first place. Just my 2 cents. -
Love knowing there's a connection to this forum! Have long watched this guys videos and seeing these two being worked on by this skilled luthier has been my favorite so far. Can't wait to see--and to hear--how amazing these two will be!

How does the LG-2 Compare to a J-45 Studio?
egoidealmusic replied to johnwilson09's topic in Gibson Acoustic
Stapleton played (and still does at times) an old sunburst LG that apparently he's had for years--and it looks it. -
Epiphone (but it's really a Gibson)
egoidealmusic replied to egoidealmusic's topic in Gibson Acoustic
To be fair, it's Epiphone in name only, right? It's out of the Gibson shop, so it's all solid (and aged) wood built in the good old U.S. of A, so isn't it basically a Gibson at the end of the day? -

I've seen a number of clips where Stapleton playing this (or at least a version of this with the double pickguards) so I know that he does play it, along with a great sounding and beat to hell LG2 (I think). -

Oh, wait--aged top--missed that. There's your 1k. . .if that's worth it. 🙂 -

Agreed, Missouri--I like it a lot too. Crazy, though, that a double pickguard and a known name add a full grand to the price. Maybe there are some other differences I haven't noticed yet (admittedly I haven't looked hard), so who knows. But the look of the double pickguard actually makes that guitar far more attractive. Not 1k more, but just saying. Here's a more realistic demo, and it sounds fantastic. -
https://www.epiphone.com/en-US/Acoustic-Guitar/ACCZZN752/Frontier-Burst I'm some will love it and some will decry the sound killing giant pickguards. . .I think it looks and sounds pretty damn sweet.

That is sweet looking! I've got an all solid RK parlor guitar that sounds and plays great. I really think their higher end(ish) stuff is really an amazing deal.

My Very First Post / Asking For J-45 Advice
egoidealmusic replied to DaveJTR's topic in Gibson Acoustic
To go back to guitars, I can't recommend the 1950s enough, and a great guitar for guitar/vocals. Of course, this depends on your vocal sound, I guess, but that's my vote. -
Here's a vote for the 50s. Absolutely love mine. Installed pickup is pretty good, but not fantastic, but I augment with a soundhole pickup.

I'm a big fan of the Dimarzio Black Angel. Good output while still passive, good tone. Definitley going for a Sunbeam sound though not fully at that level (though for that big a cost difference, it's your call). I also like it because you can combine it with another pickup (undersaddle or K&K) as it's got a build in phase shift button. Big fan and highly recommend!

Fantastic! My J-45 has already accumulated it's share of scratches and minor dings because I play it, not because it's hanging on the wall. Would love to see a pic.

No 'Custom Shop Historic' L-00 or no 'Faded Series' L-00?
egoidealmusic replied to BluesKing777's topic in Gibson Acoustic
yup, would love to see a faded L-00. Don't need it, but would be very tempted. -
