  1. Model: L-48 Acoustic Archtop Available: 1946 to 1971. Collectibility Rating: D- (a very basic non-cutaway model). 1946 L-48 introduction specs: 16" wide, mahogany top (some early models with spruce top), single bound top and back, dot fingerboard inlays (a few early models with trapezoid), silkscreen peghead logo, sunburst finish. 1952 L-48 specs: Spruce top, maple back, mahogany sides. 1954 L-48 specs: Some with a spruce top and some with a laminated mahogany top. 1957 L-48 specs: Laminiated mahogany top and sides, laminated maple back specified in catalog but in reality most had a mahogany back. L-48 discontinued in 1971. I do have L50s and other L48s.
  2. True enough. I had a L48 with the trapazoid inlays ,script gold logo. No numbers. Just had to go by features to give a approx time frame.
  3. I don’t recall L48s from the mid 40s having any numbers. You usually had to go by the inlay markers and peg head logos to get a approx. Gruhns hand book is a good source. So are the folks here. They are good here.
  4. Never seen that before. The bridge plate is different. I had a Hummingbird from that era. The bridge plate was thick. But not to that scale.
  5. No , Not a Gibson at all. The brass name plate is for a 60s Gibson hard shell case.
  6. Did you buy one? I thought the one I looked at was nice. Brass borders around the board and bridge pearl inlays. A gold border around the edge of the guard. I tried the one out up here. It sounded nice.
  7. Just a guess. But Epiphone comes to mind.
  8. One sold at Long and mcquade about 6 months ago. For $6500.00 cdn.
  9. Good question. If its the double line border guard. The grooves are deep. Same with the flowers. Ive seen the 50s single border style colors wear out. But they were over a good period of time.
  10. I have a new , actually from 1994 with a backing still on it. prewar guard for a sj200. Ren hand carved this one as a spare for My SJ200 CS See if Gibson will sell you one. If not ,mine wont be cheap. And I have No intention of using it .
  11. I dont care about there personal lives or how they evolved. There music is okay. But they played the death out of there tunes up here. They Kind of wore it all out.
  12. Ya. You either like or dont. For being from a small town here in Alberta. They actually have done well. Like most bands. There music has the same type of catch to it. They will never be ZZTop. But they have done well considering. To me . Some of there tunes are really good. But like any band out there. Theres only so much a person can listen too. Radio plays the crap out of these daily. Not sure why there not liked. Some of it is decent music.
  13. Looks fine to me. Solid wood sides. Mine are the same.
  14. Where are you located? I have a belly up braz, adj slot bridge. Its old , but new unused.
  15. I see those. Why would they use wax marker? They must have bad lighting issues in Bozeman. Those look terrible. And yes. I could see that happening. Ive seen pencil marks under clear finishes from there.
  16. Okay. When you look at the picture you posted. Of the bridge. Look at the edge just below the flat surface of the bridge. To me it looks either like a pencil line or de lamination. Good you got a new saddle.
  17. This is the New NG you just bought? Where did you get it from? If it is the NG. I see more issues than just a saddle. Contact the dealer or Gibson.
  18. The rear part of the bridge too. That will be a concern for sure Looks like its separating .
  19. I think youll be fine , I own a few like that.
  20. Its a cool process. Great vid.
  21. Come to think of it. I think Gibson did a bowl back too back in the Norlin era.
