  1. You put a nitro side by side with yours there the same . Im not sure why this a big deal. AJs are cool guitars. Enjoy it. The more you play it the better it gets.
  2. Nope it does not act like a dampner at all. Fullerplast was only a a 1 step process to fill grain . A easy approach for the builder. But with this it had its down side. Checking . Nitro is able to flex. More and checks alot finer. These guitars are sent all over the world and all those climates are different along with humidity and dryness. But to hamper tone. Not at all.
  3. To be honest... I think you should Just enjoy it.. the AJ was and is a Fine guitar.. But I do think refinishing it would be pointless.. Its Not Old enough and its still only worth so much.. besides with a AJ.. looks is one thing.. but its the volume that makes it stand out.. I like them..
  4. Ive owned a few with the fullerplast finishes. And would not go out of my way to find another. The checking is heavy and not repairable when they start other than to strip down and redo . Nitro has its quirks but a far better product if something ever has to be attended too. I may add more wood friendly .
  5. Ive owned those as well. They were just fine.
  6. Is it a maple back and side j100? To be honest . With all that has been done over the years . Im not sure anymore.
  7. Thats a Nice Looking Guitar.. and Congrats..
  8. a Good Luthier can re plate that .. and it will be .. Im sure that guitar has been through a bit over the years though..
  9. It was a structural thing . Not sure when they stopped doing it though I had a 55 and 59 that did not have the double x but they had a beefier bridge plate . The 48 I have has a single x , small bridge plate and a belly on the top. My guess is thats why. It could of had to do with neck angle as well.
  10. and in a Real case too. you have the documentation right there..
  11. No.. in 52 they had the double X. they also came with a striped bordered pick guard.
  12. holy crap.. whos bringing these posts back from the dead?
  13. well. hes hates everything .. hes a tree hugger or hes trying to be.. to get attention. .. and to top it all off.. he drives a Prius. only thing I like about Mr Young .. is the stash of Guitars he owns.
  14. Thats where you have to get Gruhns or Stan at Elderly to evaluate the guitar..
  15. If it was me. I would not restore the body Just get it checked out and get the braces and cracks if any tended to. No refinish work. Get the buttons for the machine heads and a good set up. And enjoy it. Nice guitar.
  16. you could be right. you know your Guitars too.. looks pretty nice ..
  17. Never seen a LG2 in natural before ,sure its not a LG3?
  18. Its all possible the heel could of been broken and it was repaired at some point .
  19. Yup they did.. Fullerplast was a product that cracked almost the same day put on the guitar. And not a good product to repair. It was thick and the finishes were aweful. The OP looks like a 1990 model. Nice AJ
  20. You will figure it out. Ive usually had to get opinions and acurate info from Gruhns or Elderly . They have had many pass through there stores .
  21. All those guards are Celluloid . Those 60s guards are thick. The 50s guards are thinner. I own a few J200s from the 30s late 40s and 50s. Most of those flower guards were also pressed . I have a couple from the late 30s and early 50s with darker carved guards the others are darker 50s guards. Im far from a expert. I just see what youve shown and compared to what I own here.
  22. I may add another thing it looks like carpet two way tape was used. You cannot see the rings under the guard . especially with a transparent red 60s guard . You still got a nice guitar though. Easy to change out the guard , clean up the nut .
  23. I can see the outline from the other guard placement. And chances are it shrunk and curled up Or just lost its adhesive Ive had those 200s that have had that.
  24. That is a 60s guard I just sold a NOS one exactly like that. And the nut well it looks to have been changed. As for the bell cover hole they missed things in the production line back then too. nice J 200 though . I dont think its a prototype . It would be stamped on the neck block Im guessing
