It was a structural thing . Not sure when they stopped doing it though I had a 55 and 59 that did not have the double x but they had a beefier bridge plate . The 48 I have has a single x , small bridge plate and a belly on the top. My guess is thats why. It could of had to do with neck angle as well.

and in a Real case too. you have the documentation right there..

No.. in 52 they had the double X. they also came with a striped bordered pick guard.

If it was me. I would not restore the body Just get it checked out and get the braces and cracks if any tended to. No refinish work. Get the buttons for the machine heads and a good set up. And enjoy it. Nice guitar.

Yup they did.. Fullerplast was a product that cracked almost the same day put on the guitar. And not a good product to repair. It was thick and the finishes were aweful. The OP looks like a 1990 model. Nice AJ

You will figure it out. Ive usually had to get opinions and acurate info from Gruhns or Elderly . They have had many pass through there stores .

All those guards are Celluloid . Those 60s guards are thick. The 50s guards are thinner. I own a few J200s from the 30s late 40s and 50s. Most of those flower guards were also pressed . I have a couple from the late 30s and early 50s with darker carved guards the others are darker 50s guards. Im far from a expert. I just see what youve shown and compared to what I own here.

I may add another thing it looks like carpet two way tape was used. You cannot see the rings under the guard . especially with a transparent red 60s guard . You still got a nice guitar though. Easy to change out the guard , clean up the nut .

I can see the outline from the other guard placement. And chances are it shrunk and curled up Or just lost its adhesive Ive had those 200s that have had that.

That is a 60s guard I just sold a NOS one exactly like that. And the nut well it looks to have been changed. As for the bell cover hole they missed things in the production line back then too. nice J 200 though . I dont think its a prototype . It would be stamped on the neck block Im guessing

If hes in Canada. Yes return it. Reason. Just because they have a Gibson warranty repair person . It doesnt mean there good. In most cases up here there just crazy glue happy make problems worse instead of better. Run into a few of those hacks already.

Hmmm cannot be shipped outside of the U.S . Due to material restrictions . Are they legit Gibson stools ? Or knockoffs?
