  1. I'm so confused. I thought the whole point of the Original Collection is to NOT have all that kind of stuff??
  2. that is one sweet looking guitar!!! Nice catch!!
  3. No doubt. There seem to be lots of really good PAF clones out there right now. You probably can't go too wrong with most of them.
  4. If Gary Moore were still alive, and he and Joe came to town on the same night, I'd go see Gary. But, I am a fan of Joe's.
  5. I agree, the scratch would be disappointing but not a deal breaker. If you send that back, they're going to sand it out and sell it again as new. I would just fix it myself. The string spacing looks fine to me. Compared to my LPs it looks about the same. All that stuff is done by the PLEK machine. Not to say that it couldn't fail but doubtful. It is a really nice looking top. If you do choose to send it back, why would you give up all together? Just have them send you another one. Either way good luck.
  6. Since you say you otherwise really like the guitar, I'd take everything out and put in a set of SD Seth Lovers and re-do with hand-wired pots and caps. If that doesn't fix it, nothing will.
  7. Thanks for posting. That's good information. I have three Custom Shop guitars and I'm really attracted to these. I'll probably be able to resist, for a while.
  8. The one in the video is pretty nice indeed and I agree most of the ones I'm seeing are pretty plain, but Wildwood has some trickling in that are not bad. https://wildwoodguit...nal-collection/
  9. I haven't seen that particular guitar, but, if it's a re-issue it should not have a vibramate adapter.
  10. Well, I don't know. That top is really nice. As you say, it's the best one I've seen so far (in the whole 3 days they've been out). If the nut functions well, I may live with it. I'm a pick guard guy so nobody would ever see the scratch. And without bright lights and magnification you can't see the fretboard that well... Edit: I just watched the video again. On second look It's not really the nut. Its the fretboard just in front of the nut. Looking at the whole thing again, I think i'd keep it (with a discount for the scratch)
  11. Oh, and I forgot to mention, wife and I are "foodies" so cooking and wine"appreciation" are mandatory.
  12. Very nice to see another karate-ka here. Osu!
  13. JKA Shotokan Karate. Iaido. Shooting. Hiking and backpacking. My dogs. Gardening (both decorative and edible).
  14. OK, to be fair I was referring mainly to the nut and fretboard. There was also the issue of the scratch/gouge in the top from the pick guard nut. But, being a Demo model that may have been a result of abuse rather than poor QC. I'm generally a big defender of Gibson quality because the seven Gibson's I have, or have had, have all been perfect. So I do agree with you in general but I thought that nut looked bad.
  15. Yeah, I think you're right. It looks like the Original Collection Standard is almost identical to the Traditional, but now offered with two different necks. That seems like a good idea to me. And it's priced about $300 less then the Traditional was. They're both supposed to have AA tops, but you know how that goes. I would have offered plain top and figured top versions. Plain top for let's say $2200 and AAA figured for $2600 maybe?? On another note, as other have mentioned, the workmanship on this demo model is crap. That is concerning.
  16. Very nice detailed review. These remind me of my old Bonamassa guitar that was a basically a 60's tribute. That was a great guitar and these are very similar. This is what a LP Standard should be.
  17. Nice looking guitar there for sure. I think Gibson will sell a lot of those. Oh, and the reason you hadn't seen these before is because they were just released yesterday. You'll be the coolest kid on the block now.
  18. I had one briefly that was brand new and it had no sticker.
  19. Looks cool! Tear that baby up!
  20. Yeah, the aging thing is not for me. But, if someone thinks it looks cool, go for it. They do seem popular though. Another justification for it is an artist that has a real vintage instrument that they don't want to take out so they get one that they use as a replica. Bonamassa is known for playing his vintage guitars out but it depends on the circumstance. There are times when he uses RI's instead. That seems reasonable to me.
  21. That's an interesting guitar. I don't find the SN or model year mentioned. The PG 129 I think may refer to Beauty of the Burst page 129. But that was a '59. Assuming it's new, the price would seem to indicate a plain top, but it says it's figured, and it looks figured and generally R0's are figured, . So that's a bit confusing, unless it's not new, or it's damaged or maybe it's been there for a while and they are discounting it. If it is new, and in new condition, then that's a really good price. I would want more details about it. There are lots of bad things to say about GC, but, one good thing is that you can have them ship it to a store near you and if it's not to your liking you don't have to keep it. Edit: This is interesting. There is a pg 129 burst that was made as a R0. However, it had some interesting specs. It's a plain top with BB's and had push-pulls with coil splitting, phase switching and a kill switch. See here: https://www.sweetwat...vos-pg129-burst The one you linked at GC says it is figured with CBs and no push pulls so that's a mystery.
  22. Hey there Col. I guess i'll take a couple more postmortem kicks at the horse. I don't disagree with your overall sentiment about this. But, my answers are largely based on the fact that the OP said he'll never sell the guitar. I agree that I never would have bought it if it didn't sound good when i played it. I'd have just kept shopping, but that wasn't what he asked. As for the opinion that a Custom Shop Historic is just a USA guitar with a different price tag, I'll have to respectfully disagree on that. Jam on.
  23. Eh... G-force, Shmee-force. If you dig 'em, use 'em. If not, mock those who do, No, no, no, I was just kidding. Really, just kidding. I don't really care how people tune their guitars. I've never listened to anyone play and wondered if they used auto tuners.
  24. That's the thing for a question like this. There is no right or wrong answer. The right answer is the one that works for you.
