  1. Hmmm. Amaranth seems to be an alternate name for Purpleheart, but I, not being a connoisseur of fine wood I think you know more than I do.. On the Thomman site this HB DC Junior's fretboard is listed as Ebony.. Some of the new features, a P100 style that the second coil is wired out of phase and can be taped out using the tone control, also a Fat 59 neck. Some of the earlier variations of the HB DC Junior do list an Amarant (Purpleheart) Fingereboard.. It seems each production run has new mods. I do love this style of guitar, as they are just Meat and Potatoes like a Smith and Wesson Schofield..
  2. Currently I have a 7 rack that I cover with a Sarong that has a de-humidifier running under it to help keep the moisture away. In my climate I can't store them in cases because oxidation or rust and have found that in the rack I am more likely to touch each of them at least every week. So my limit is 7, but I just acquired an Ibanez RG421 so now I have 8 electrics, but need to get back down to 7... 😞
  3. If your new Epiphone SG Special has a wraparound bridge similar to this one and and you want adjustable saddles, you will need a BadAss style of bridge. Also remember that Epiphones are metric and not SAE like Gibson, the bridges are not the same size.. Tone pro's wraparound bridge...... ****************make sure you double check the measurements..****************** or this Adjustable Wraparound Bridge that is similar to a BadAss.
  4. Could play a lot of things.. Epiphone hasn't built one for a while, wonder if they are up to the challenge to build an affordable Junior DC again? or the Japan version.
  5. Several other popular amps in the 15 watt range that I demo'd didn't make the cut, specially used ones, the Blues Jr easily won out. One contender a 55 watt Riviera Sedona acoustic amp with a 12, just sounded like sex as soon as I turned it on, but at over $800 used it fell out of the running.. If anyones amp uses ECC83 or 12AX7 preamp tubes and needs to get more clean headroom. Some are recommending the 5751 preamp tube that doesn't overdrive too easily and is reported to be one of the better sounding of the cleaner alternative tubes..
  6. I had tried a couple of used Blues Jrs including a new one in store, that had been sold while I was thinking about it, and decided that I wanted to get a new one. Searching the internet I kept finding that the Stage Right 15's were constantly being compared to the Blues Jr with good reviews. With a price of $249.99 and free shipping, I decided it was worth the risk to find out if it sounded as good as was being reported. Since these are tube amps and most of what you hear is produced by the combination of tubes and the speaker, its not advanced electronics, I felt that with a decent EQ I could get the sound I was looking for. Most tube amps are judged against the Blues Jr.. 🙂
  7. John Lewis was rare man fighting for what he believed in, he has left the world peacefully as he lived his life leading by example and making scarifies. He will be missed.
  8. They do sound good and being tube amps its just a matter of dialing them in to get the sound you want. Two of them sound even better, so many different ways to adjust the sound I want and ways to use them. So now for $500 I have 30 watts of tube power with 2 x 12" Celestions and many different ways to use them.. Most of the time at my jams I am just using 1. Since I use P90's exclusively on my guitars my sound starts out driven a bit, I have learned to reduce the amount of Drive on my pedal with stacked Boosts. I have just acquired an Ibanez with openface ceramic humbuckings that will be converted to GFS Mean 90's. And sill have my Roland stack previously mentioned..
  9. These are getting a lot of nods... 🙂
  10. I just came in from mowing, Sorry to hear about your daughters cat, very sad. If anything happened to my cats I would be bummed, I have 2 female Siamese and a monster black male living on our doorstep that keeps all the other cats and dogs away.
  11. Getting ready to mow the back half of my lawn. Been playing my recently acquired RG421, which feels very different from my Epiphones with its flat maple fingerboard and 25 1/2" scale neck, which is actually 25 5/8". Any way its proving to be a lot of fun to play I haven't had 24 frets since my SG-X.. Gotta go mow the yard..
  12. I didn't medicate for mine and watched the show on the big screens, also I wanted to make sure I didn't feel both his hands on my shoulders..
  13. How about Blue Moon Burst, I picked up a used RG421 this weekend for a price I couldn't turn down..
  14. I survived mowing the front half of my yard..
  15. Someone could, but I gotta go mow the lawn.....
  16. Johnny's in the basement Mixing up the medicine I'm on the pavement Thinking about the government The man in the trench coat Badge out, laid off Says he's got a bad cough Wants to get it paid off Look out kid It's somethin' you did God knows when But you're doing it again You better duck down the alley way Lookin' for a new friend A man in the coonskin cap, in the pig pen Wants eleven dollar bills, you only got ten I think that was done with one breath....
  17. I miss being 25, it was so long ago..
  18. Hurricane Douglas seems to have passed me by on The Big Island without too much fuss and is headed for Maui, Kauai and is expected to be on a direct path to Oahu by this afternoon, possibly hitting the north shore the hardest. When I look out my window Many sights to see And when I look in my window So many different people to be
  19. Dave Simpson on the Harley Benton Tube 15 (Stage Right 15 in disguise) in-depth review.. Good explanations on how all the tone EQ's work.. And a really nice intro..... I found it interesting that he re-tweaked the EQ for different guitars and drive levels and through the whole demo Treble was at Zero or -5 as he called it, but in every situation was able to get sound that he liked. He didn't run the Gain past 1 for clean headroom while using his pedal board and could take the Volume to about 6 safely. The last half was direct into the amp with a few different guitars. I have found that my Stage Right 15 is still pretty clean till after 2 on the Gain and the tone seems keep getting richer with a little more Gain. Currently I like to use mine with the Gain between 4 and 5 with a single pedal that has 3 boosts, with Delay and Chorus in the effects loop.
  20. I noticed while I was walking around my yard this morning playing my heavy LP with my micro Marshall I was frequently gazing for some place to sit, then when I got close to different structures the acoustics changed and I forgot about sitting.
  21. Beautiful trans dark blue.. I like darker blues too.. Zardoz's light blues are pretty killer..
  22. I prefer to stand but after damaging my ankle I use a fold-up counter stool so I can easily transition from standing to sitting.
  23. Yea California is getting hit pretty hard right now with Covid, good to support your preferred store though. Several internet stores just announced today that they have them in stock, different models can sometimes ship in lots so yours could show up soon.
