  1. Something Jimi always had was the raw edge of the early blues players like Howlin Wolf or Lead Belly or Lightnin Hopkins, it even shows up when he's playing a 12 string and bending strings. It must have been really hard to get the 12 string in tune with the fixed bridge going the wrong way for a lefty, no hope for intonation..
  2. One thing to consider is the time period when he came out and the speaker splitting sound he got with his Strat going into a Marshall. Eric in Cream at this time couldn't get clarity using an SG going into a Marshall, he and his engineers complained that the sound was getting muddy. Jimi also gravitated to playing a Strat upside down which puts the controls and tremolo right under his hand making them easier to reach for creating special effects and control. Then quite literally living with his guitar around his neck, it was his best friend I think. Constantly listening to the sounds of the world and learning to re-create them with his guitar. Not to mention many years of playing popular music.
  3. Yep I felt bad, specially after seeing the body guys drooling over it and wanting to take part in the restoration. They did a beautiful job on it and four of them watched as I took delivery, probably wondering why an old man was driving it. 🙂
  4. No guitars were injured in mine either. My FRS was designed for drifting by a partnership between Toyota and Subaru. It is rear wheel drive with a Subaru Boxer engine giving it very low center of gravity, so it handles like a Porsch. Mine is a Scion but there is also a Toyota and Subaru version the "86" and the "BRZ". Great fun to drive and you don't have to be a drifter..
  5. These aren't all that expensive, you could probably get at least a couple of them for the price of a Mercedes...
  6. Backing up can be very dangerous. In January I was backing through a friends gate, I got out of the car running with the door open and was opening the gate when I noticed my cars was moving. At first I thought it was just rolling then realized it was in gear. Being behind it, by the time I could get in and stop it, the door caught the gate and it had folded the door into the front quarter panel. Being a 2014, but with very low miles, it had a few other things that needed to be repaired, so anyway 6gs later including new paint it looks like a new car again. I hope this story eases your pain, as I felt really stupid after trashing my car..
  7. Eric with the Bluesbreakers Early Bluesbreakers, I think, Eric with an SG..
  8. I watched Zardoz last night, hadn't seen it for a very long time. It made me wonder how many naked women they included to keep Sean interested. Sean kills his god Zardoz and proceeds to destroy the advanced stagnant civilization.
  9. Since we seem to be talking about pre shredder days, I would have to consider the guys who created songs that had unforgettable tag lines. So best would have to include ground breaking sounds... Like Purple Haze, Satisfaction, Pipe Line, TalkTalk, Little Red Book, I'm A Man, Come Together, Turn Turn Turn, White Rabbit, Summertime, Funk 49, I Feel Free, Breezin, Good Times Bad Times, A Saucerful Of Secrets and many more.. Who was best is highly subjective, I always loved listening to Chet, Currently I have been listening to Robert Johnson. But possibly the most innovative and skill with ease could be Jimi. For me anyway.
  10. I watched this on the TV in 1964 with my mom sitting next to me not sure what to make of it.. I didn't want to hear the beach boys anymore...
  11. Spiked watermelon, was quite common.
  12. P-90 .... the correct direction to hit a urinal. Soapbar.... helps keep a blues player clean. Dogear .... what a basset hound steps on when he's drunk..
  13. Jimi playing his Epiphone Nashville Cream Custom
  14. It could have helped him, the Monkees, even though they weren't a real band, had a massive crowd draw.
  15. As I remember it dead shows were more an acid thing..
  16. Monoprice eBay store contacted me about my damaged SR15 and said they could do a return on it for refund but could not replace it because they are out of stock again. I let them know I repaired it and intended to keep it. Right now the only available version is the Harley Benton 15 which is wired for 230v, Thomannd reports it is their best selling tube amp at the moment. The new repaired one is sounding good and playing out of two of them is really interesting, I have an inclination to use multiple amps, but have been using my Rolands for too long.. Oh no, my Briggs is calling me, got to go finish mowing the back lawn...
  17. Nice amp, I was looking at those a while back, very tempting..
  18. What did the bone player say to the guitarist on his way to a gig? Did you want fries with that?
  19. My delay going into my amp is set for fast delay creating a type of sustain, then the delay in the effects loop is set with slower repeats feeding my chorus that is set slow as possible, both with a moderate mix level. Now that I have 2 matching tube amps, I may run chorus on one and delay on the other or completely different conditioning effects. But since I mostly play my own music I don't have to worry about duplicating a specific sound, what ever I do its mine.. 🙂
  20. That was very good, I didn't realize Billy Cox went back that far with Jimi.. Just something I just saw.. Yay Jimi... Lots of old news clippings from the mid 60's..
  21. Very good White Fang and Black Tooth impression, Soupy would be proud... I don't think anyone could have enough delays and choruses, I run them constantly in my effects loop for conditioning, aside from the ones on the ground leading into my amp. I have a couple of Whammy pedals that are collecting dust since I started using a tremolo bar again..
  22. To all those who are reaching into their 60's for the first time, don't let the number rule what you do, just keep doing. Your guitar work will keep your brain young as long as you want it to, while aches and pains of the body may accumulate just keep moving and let the girls be handy..
