  1. I would try it first on your amp and see if you like it. You have a nice collection going, but the P90's are a completely different animal. Requiring some tweaking of your amp and effects differently, usually a little cleaner as the P90's are a little more driven. But turning down the volume on the guitar will clean it up a bit. Perhaps adding it to your stable unless your are tired of the Tele. I have small collection of different types of guitars, all with P90's.. All with slightly different versions of P90's and have very wide tone ranges.
  2. I have had this 97 Epi Junior DC for about 20 years, it has been rebuilt and upgraded with Kluson tuners, a 59 LP P90, rewired with CTS pots and frets dressed. I had an 04 Gibson LP Special DC but the finish was having trouble with my humid environment and recently had to sell it. My 97 Double Cut has been a Killer since I took it out of the box, a total joy to play and I will keep playing as long as I'm still breathing.
  3. So... Slash's main guitar was a Master Luther built custom fake 59 Burst with a 60's neck, that was acquired for him because his real Gibson was having unsolvable problems.... Then in 2010 Gibson copied his fake and released the Slash signature model.. According to the video...
  4. Very cool performance... What is that white guitar the 2nd guitarist is playing, looks like a LP Special DC with a Telecaster neck.
  5. I have been a P90 fan for a long time, currently all of my guitars have them. Over the years as amps and effects have improved P90 line noise has been decreasing. Having one P90 in reverse polarity can help, when both pickups are on you have hum cancelling. The Double Cut Specials and Juniors have always been my favorites. This is my 56 Les Paul Standard Pro.
  6. Oh sorry but just had to put in this Jared James impression of a 59..
  7. 59 Les Paul Junior Double Cut
  8. Another tell that is being reported about Chibsons, is that the Gibson headstock Break Angle of 17° is not being copied, but much closer to the Epiphone 14° Break Angle. Note: Many luthiers report that Gibsons have the highest number of headstock breakage of any guitar. The Epiphone 14° Break Angle, possibly being more flexible, rarely breaks, but finish fractures are common..
  9. I started to put something in about a DC I missed, then got depressed thinking about the early Gibsons and Epihones I acquired, that slipped through my fingers. I used to cruise around Maricopa's pawn shops finding unbelievable deals on old guitars. They didn't seem to know what to do with Lap Steels, so I ended up with a few. I actually bought a Gibson Lap Steel for $20, I still have a Ric that I think I paid $35 for. When I see guitars going for 4 digits that I had acquired for 2 digits, its kind of freaky.. So seeing a Les Paul Jr DC in TV Yellow going for 11.5k is impressive, makes me wonder what an actual Les Paul TV Model DC will bring.. Note that there were quite a few Single Cut Specials and Juniors that came in TV Yellow including TV Models, but in general the Double Cut's were the most desirable.
  10. I think it has kind of a crazy effect on old guys like me, that had the opportunity to acquire them when they actually sold for reasonable prices. The early TV DC models price started going really nuts in the early 80s.
  11. Just sitting here wondering what happened to Navy Vet.. ?
  12. There are quite a few copies of LP specials on Aliexpress and even some on eBay, be wary of a guitar seller that does not show you a clear photo of the headstock as it will most likely be using an unauthorized trade mark and a US serial number.. There are many other brands of Specials that the design has been modified slightly to make them legal like Firefly on Amazon, for example. China for example makes copies of any guitar brand they want and sells them. China does not recognize international copywrite or trademarks. Note: Fakes are metric and tend to not use Gibson brand markings on their components like, tuners, bridges, pots and pickups. Also the Gibson truss rod uses a special socket style wrench where copies just use a hex key.
  13. I prefer the P90 version, but that guitar is absolutely gorges.
  14. A live comparison of a guitarist using small amps with a band, the first one is a Kramk,.. Edited just now by mihcmac
  15. Nice selection, what is your most killer pedal, the one that you could absolutely not do without, next to Absinthe?
  16. The anomalies on the "Inlays" are not that unusual for Gibson in that era. Fakes are metric and tend to not use Gibson brand markings on their components like, tuners, bridges, pots and pickups. Also the Gibson truss rod uses a special socket style wrench where copies just use a hex key . To authenticate better need more photos of the whole guitar.
  17. When sitting on a stool, for some reason, the LP DC seems to slide off your leg causing it too constantly be repositioned, as mentioned earlier the lower contour of the similar SG jr seems to be in a better position for sitting. Since the LP DC is a little neck heavy, perhaps not balanced well for sitting. But here is a guy using strap on a 59 LP DC... Notice his right forearm is well positioned to hold th DC in Place.
  18. Looking forward to Dune with Mamoa, Jason usually gets the funding to do the effects right. The first Dune movie sucked and drifted too far from the book. The mini series was much better, but needing better CGI.
  19. I had a few highly modded Melody Makers. At the time thought they sounded great with Humbuckers.. My last Melody Maker was an 04 LP style with a P90.
  20. The price is way more than anything I could put in my stable, but the simplicity of design an function of what they put into a "Student" guitar, its just "Meat and Potatoes". Having lived during an era when these were affordable, I'm kicking myself for not keeping the ones I owned. In the 60's and 70's you could pick up Juniors for peanuts. In the 90's I started trying to find a LP DC in TV Yellow, before there were copies being made, a few Japan labels, Gibson rarely released new ones and the originals were fast becoming unobtainable. Then in the late 90's Epiphone released the DC Junior that had some quality issues, basically not assembled very well, but fixable. Mine is Indonesian built at the Cort factory and has been rebuilt many times. Currently it has a 59 LP pickup, CTS pots, Kluson white button tuners and a new Epi wraparound compensated bridge. It is still fun to play and sounds incredible..
  21. No rain, I have also had both Gibsons within recent memory.. But right now I just have a 97 Epi version..
  22. That is about right for an SG Junior, but a LP DC Jr in TV Yellow, specifically, is much harder to find. Even thought they are almost the same guitar, personally I think the SG Jr is a better design compared to the DC, specially for comfort. But there is something about the DC in yellow. This one has a non-compensated bridge which may be aluminum, to me it would explain why its so bright.
