Fender amp

I looked at a very cool Fender amp yesterday.

A friend of mine works at a pawn shop and he will call me when they get some thing new in the store, <guitars, amps>

Anyway some guy brought in this Fender Vibrolux amp and sold it to the shop.

They are trying to get a value of the amp, and just to make sure these amps could be custom ordered this way.

It has the off white Tolex cover, but then it has the original oyx-blood grill. and 1 Jensen 15" speaker.

The Tolex has a couple small defects in it, but the grill cover is in great shape. This thing weighs a ton!

The foot switch is missing. When I got there he plugged it in with a Fender Strat. and what a Sound.

They have some one coming in to appraise the amp as with it being what looks like a custom order from Fender, they are not sure of the value.

He told me they paid $1,500.00 for the amp. Sure thinking about how great it would be sitting ay my house.

Does it have an actual Fender badge on it?

Few years ago, maybe more, was a guy out in Cali making Vibrolux/verb knockoffs for the Vaughn-a-be crowd. Who knew there were still Vaughn-a-bes?

Anyway, look for big transformer, the name "King" anywhere. King Amps made them, they was 'spensive. Fedner used to make one that was like a Ceasar Diaz hopped up version, the King is probably close to that.

It is a true vintage Fender amp, there is no doubt about that. They did check the serial number and it is dated as a 1962. But the reason they are not sure of the value is due to the 1 Jesen speaker <instead of 2 10" speakers>, and the oyx-blood colored grill cloth.I guess the way I worded the first post was a little incorrect. I corrected the first post. They do know the year of manufacturing, just not sure of the value

at one time I had an ancient Fender tube amp w/the single 15" monster Jensen....it was so old that almost all the labeling was worn off the control panel....I figured out that it was a "master volume" amp, single channel w/either trem/vibrato, and I THINK it was 35w or 40w.

loaned it to my Godson when a friend gave me a 105w Univox stage stack, and now said Godson swears he has NO IDEA what happened to the old amp. (probably sold it cheap for "puffin'-stuff")

be prepared for the pawnbrokers appraiser/friend to overvalue the amp by a rediculous amount....not sure about your area, but the pawnbroker mantra in mine is "triple your money on it, or don't waste your time". [thumbdn]

Originally the Vibrolux had a 15" (sometimes a JBL) and was aimed at steelies. They were available until the early 70s - someone I knew had a silver-face one, wonderful tone but very heavy indeed.

Please do your research and ascertain if it is reissue or vintage. At any rate, I highly doubt that a Pawn Broker "EVER" paid $1500 on ANYTHING that they took in!....If you catch my drift????

Believe me, I don,t mean to be confrontational or 'negative! Just my "life's experience"......[sneaky]

I'd say, for most pawn shops, if they gave someone $150.00 they would have thought they were overpaying let alone $1500.00. [rolleyes] It's not like they are really in the business to buy/sell things. But, they exist, just like payday loan stores & loan sharks because people get hard up and use them. Guess it happens with houses, land and most everything else too. If you are there with $$$ and make an offer what it is worth "to you" to buy it, then the person selling can always say NO.

Like everyone's said, really do the homework on that one. Here's a '66 on ebay fender amp

The amp that you posted the listing for is for looks like its the amp portion only, no cabinet included, plus the amp has been reworked quite a bit.

The amp I looked at was not for sale, as the owner of the shop is a guitar/amp collector himself. My friend just wanted to show me the amp that they purchased from some one who walked in off the street to sell it.

I dont doubt for a minute that they paid $1,500.00 for the amp, as he was not trying to sell it to me.

With it being a custom order <1 15" Jensen speaker, ox-blood colored grill cloth>, all original is the reason they need to have the amp appraised.

I would love to have it, but I really doubt if he will part with it.

You're right as that is a custom made blond cab. that ebay fellow had made. Not a factory original blond. He has all the original black cab. listed separately and it is a 2-10 setup. Looks like he had a great job done on the new cab however. I would rather the oxblood grille cloth myself as it doesn't look quite like Oxblood from the photo.

I guess if the Shop owner was purchasing for himself that would be different if he's a guitar enthusiast too.

I have to go over to that area of town next week and I will see if he will let me take a picture of it.

Not sure what or if there is a protocol on taking pictures of items in a pawn shop, but if he will let me I will take one and post it.

I love the vintage amps<guitars too> much more than the newer models.
