NGD - Jackson SL2Q MAH

Always wanted a Soloist. Just love the through-neck construction and the SUPER easy access to the 24th fret. The one I bought comes stock with an actual recessed Floyd Rose in black chrome. It looks flashy too with its burnt cherry sunburst.

I know mostly here we like our vintage Les Pauls and such, but this Jackson is a performance guitar. I don't have any pics of this yet, but I will share one once I get the time to upload it to this site - so yes, it really happened, haha! I figure that I have my LP Custom, Standard, Classic, Nighthawks, Tele, Strat... I missed my MIJ Dinky I traded back a while ago... When you want to rock something like a hurricane, you are going to like this guitar when you need to do full bends on the 22nd fret. Also when you need to do some scale runs on this area of the fretboard, it helps to have a slim, very accessible neck with a flatter radius. For me, it just isn't that comfortable (if it is actually for anyone) to access your 22nd fret and play something articulate so to speak on a LP - or any of the guitars I just listed that I have. Just saying this Soloist is a metal/rock machine and has been for a long time IMHO!

I really didn't want to write about this guitar here because most people here (I think...) aren't into this sort of guitar, but some may be... I play an assortment of many different types of music, and I just wanted a guitar that could work with playing some shredding heavy metal - not that this is the only thing this guitar can do. Well, the stock SD Distortion pickups are going to help that one out msp_thumbup.gif For the price point on this guitar, it sure competes well with a USA made Jackson Custom Shop. Actually, the build quality is very impressive (made in Indonesia). I have not seen one issue whatsoever. Real binding on the neck, well filed frets, decent set up out of the box... Jackson did something right here. Yeah, the top is a quilted veneer and the headstock logo and fretboard inlays aren't MOP or anything fancy, but I don't really care about that since this guitar is going to be a player that I don't want to worry about some dings and nicks of the sort. On the side note, that's the downfall to buying an expensive guitar IMHO, because you are worried about your first blemish and/or someone wanting to lift it once it goes out of your sight, etc. This guitar of course is no slouch, but I wouldn't worry about this as much as when I take one of my Gibsons out to the gig.

Overall, just really happy about this acquisition. Just seeing if anyone wants to comment/talk about Jackson/Charvel (shredder or Super Strat-like guitars). The store (Motor City Guitar in Waterford, MI) I bought it from is a fantastic store that blows GC out of the water. Most of my gear actually comes from this place. The owner knows me really good, honors GC coupons, does fair trades for everyone, and very knowledgeable and personable staff. The entrance is fancy too as you walk in the doors, there are 2 ENORMOUS LPs X'ed over the doorway. Their online selection doesn't even show a fraction of what this place actually has on their displays. That could be a little better, but it's a fun place to visit. They sell very "coveted" Gibsons, Fenders, pretty much guitar brand out there (again, not indicative on their site so much). Anyhow, pics to come soon of this fantastic Soloist.

Congrats, NightHawkChris.

That's a fine guitar, and very attractive.

Speaking strictly for myself, as an avowed guitar addict, I tend to give a thumbs-up to anyone who wants a guitar and goes out and gets it.

Sure, there are a lot of Gibson fans here, but very few who would look down their nose at a gorgeous shred machine like that Jackson.

Cool man, appreciate the compliments! I like the guitar a lot and always had a liking for Jackson guitars. Another thing to add is that Jackson guitars don't break the bank on anyone either, and you get a very comfortable playing, reliable guitar. I get it that I am not NGD'ing a LP or ES... but I spend a decent amount of effort sharing with the world what is going on in my insignificant life here on our friendly Gibson Guitar Forum...

And I see that you are a guitar fan, haha! That's cool man! It is good to be enthusiastic about things in life as such I suppose. Just need to be careful not to go overboard I guess.

I personally have all the guitars I will ever need. Last few years, I've been going on a spree and I just don't have the fire for anything else. I have my dream LP, NH, Strat, Tele... Now my Jackson Soloist! Amps - got that covered. I'm not one much for effects and all that, but I like reverb and distortion - no desires to get anything here. I play out a bit these days, so I have my outing gear and stuff I keep at home for all time - fully insured of course however much that will help in a catastrophe of sorts. Overall, I have had this vision of exactly what I want to move forward in life with guitars, and I am pretty sure I'm there. I waited until my last guitar to get my shredder, because these don't have to cost Gibson money to work. IDK... It's exciting to me to get this guitar and I really want to share a pic of it when I get the chance to upload it here. I figured that Gibson enthusiasts will not care for a Jackson Soloist made in Indonesia, but personally, I'd say the build quality of this "cheap" Indonesian made Jackson is better than that of my 2018 Classic LP which I had to go through 2 to find one that was worthy. And that Classic costs more than double the Jackson... Go figure. I'm just done with the "finding your tone" crap. I know what I like and have liked for decades now. I knew I needed a shredder, and Jackson has won my heart years ago. Anyhow, best wishes to you sparquelito! Thanks again!

i don't know why someone thumbed you down, maybe it was a mistake...or maybe they're jealous. now you need to play lay it down, or wanted man. that guitar NEEEDS to play some ratt

I'm thinking that Ratt would be perfect.

Or, this favorite of mine from 1984.

It doubles as a commercial for Papermate pens, by the way, which endears it to me!

I like different guitars. I have an Ibanez RH652AHM prestige and is a similar type guitar as Your new Jackson. I think most of us here have a broad interest range when it comes to guitars. Some may not necessarily invest in one like your new Jackson but I am sure some of them like what guys do with them.

Enjoy and it looks good too!!

Very nice. Enjoy. The last two guitars I took possession of (an Ltd 7 string that I bought and an Ltd 6 string that I won as a prize) are both Superstrat body styles like yours. I really like the way they play.

I love pointy guitars. My first bass is a Jackson with the Amber Sunburst finish, very similar to your colour. Love the matching headstock too.

Beautiful axe, I hope you enjoy it.

Here she is in all her glory, haha! Thanks everyone for all the kind replies, I appreciate it and contributing to this forum. I don't do social media at all, but I like to visit here and read up comments from the wonderful contributors here - and look at some wonderful guitar porn! I like to help others out with their problems regarding guitars, because it is no fun to struggle with simple s***. I remember being a kid and getting jacked around by the guitar "techs" back in the day, but thanks to forums like this and many great videos online, I have learned a ton about how to do the things a guitar needs correctly. Anyhow, thanks again, glad to have a nice community to participate online with about guitars, the things we love most in life - except the important people in our lives of course, haha! I've been playing for 24 years and counting and love it more and more every day. Nothing is more fun than to play music with your friends and to share with the attentive listeners. I wish that I could have made a living doing this, but I'm sure that's what a lot of us would like... Nonetheless, I am thankful for everything I have worked for in my life. Best wishes to all, looking forward to many great days ahead! Cheers msp_thumbup.gif

In my first post, I included a link to the store I bought it from. Check 'em out if you're interested... There are some pretty nice specs on this guitar if I don't say so myself.

Sweet guitar! I'm a lover of guitars in general, not brand specific. I tend to buy more Gibsons than others and that would catch my eye. Very nice looking guitar. I've been looking at a Fender Strat and an Ibanez Jiva lately. The Fender to replace the one I sold long ago. The Ibanez would be my "shredder guitar" although it might have to contend with my Flying V's. I played one (Ibanez Jiva) at Sweetwater last year and they're really nice. It's nice to have a bit of variety for different sounds and feels. Also, gave bigtime a + just to get him back in the green. :)

Nice catch and congratulations!
