NPD... (not pedal)

Nope, not pedal but New Phone Day...  Well almost, I just pre-ordered one (first time I have ever pre-ordered anything)..  But by doing so, they will give ,me £300 back for my two year old phone (Galaxy S10e) AND I got an extra 10% off through a friend who had a discount code.. NICE.... So over here they cost £949 for the 128GB version and £999 for the 256GB version... and got £300 off then 10%, so it cost me £628, which I think for a new folding phone is great..

Been wanting something like this for a long time now as I hate the size of smart phones these days..  This is the third iteration of this design and I really think they hit the mark with this one. Much looking forward too it.

By some coincidence, my elderly flip-phone (non smart phone) that I use strictly for phone calls, is about to obsolesce.
(It won't be functional after February 2022, because it can't do 4G or 5G, whatever that means.)

I kept it for the past few years because the company I work for provides me a smart phone, and I also keep a fully capable tablet functional and online.
It's on a no-contract, pay by month deal with AT&T, $25 a month, unlimited talk and text.

AT&T contacted me yesterday, and arranged to send me a new flip phone (also not a smart phone, just a phone) for free
Just because they like me so much, I reckon.
And because I agreed to keep on using their service and that number.

Funny.
😀

I really like those old phones..  If I didnt use stuff like Google maps which I do find really useful I would have bought an old one like that ages ago and abandoned smart phones all together 🙂  I had one like this.. LOVED that little thing.

LG Mobile Phone with Enhanced Gaming and Flash VGA Camera with Digital Zoom, AX5000 Silver

That's almost "pay attention 007"......[laugh]

Damned ingenious, what?

And...expensive even wivva discount innit?

Let me know your number if it changes 🎸

No it wont 🙂

And yes its not cheap.. BUT thats what phones cost these days.. If I were to be getting one of the newer non foldable smartphones it would cost about the same.

I've got an old Nokia, think it's a 3319 or something like that - just a very basic mobile.   So I may have to replace it next year?

In looking it up.. YES, well in the US anyway... But they say they are phasing 3G out over here and turning off by 2023...  If what I just read was right anyway.

I had no idea that was happening.

Well its had a good run - I was given it - and sounds like it still has a year + to go.

Don't want to buy an Apple as I've been vaccinated and that's Win 10. [wink]

It's funny.
We have more devices on us and in our gig bags than Batman had accessories in his Bat Belt.

I have the old non-smart flip phone of course.
For personal calls and (rarely) texts.
It'll get replaced by AT&T so it can be 4G or 5G, but will still be primitive by all standards and measures.
The number shall remain (256) 585-8602 I am told.
In case anybody wants to prank call me at 4:00 am.
(Funny thing is, I will already be up, and having coffee by that time.)

I have also the company-issued smart phone.
It's a Galaxy something or the other.
It does internet and phone calls and texts, but I keep it strictly work-related.
Nothing personal on that one.

Lastly, there's my tablet.
I think it's also a Galaxy thingamabob, and I can do all manners of internet (i.e. mature nude lady porn, and looking for guitars more importantly), and also my personal aviation app, Garmin Pilot, which allows me to fly or drive hither and yon and see my exact location on a 1:250.000 JOG map, with live streaming weather, which is a life saver.

Any wonder that I love to leave all the devices at home, and go wandering in my woods on a regular basis?

🙂

Very nice choice Rabs. I didn't know about this sort of phone.

I recently lost my phone. It was old but I had not long had a new battery installed. Someone found it and must have seen a message preview because the finder called my son. It appeared he was trying to return it, but it never was returned to either one of us. I finally bought a new one a few days ago.

I didnt want another iPhone because of the Sony practice of 3rd party incompatibility etc, so replaced it with a cheapo Sumsung Galaxy (£160-ish). Yes its bigger than I like but I got a belt case to carry it in. Hopefully it will be more secure. Just getting to know my way around it now.

Well for a lot of people its all about the apps.....  Personally even though I have worked in computers, so am no luddite,  I hate the idea of having my whole life on my phone. But for some people they do their banking on it, pay their bills, email and stuff like Just Eat and even buy a car with a phone app...  But as I say, I am not really in to all of that.

I do use Google maps ALOT, and that plugs in to my car too which again is really useful. Then I have my business mail on it, keep about 30GB of music on it and use the camera a fair amount... Apart from that its just a phone to me.. I am not gonna keep my whole life on it. Oh and also a game or two when I am on the loo  🙂

So I bought this mostly because of the form on it and its so small, not cos its the latest trend or best technology out there or anything like that.

I should have spent a bit more time on research TBH. The A12 has 4 cameras which is overkill. The iPhone 5 had one which had much better resolution. This will make me use my real camera a lot more again.

I don't buy anything on my phone. I did puzzle the phone shop fellow when he asked me what I would use it for. I relied 'security'. That's because most companies now send text code messages to help verify who you are.
