Gibson C&W Sheryl Crow strings

Any suggestion for new strings on my C&W. ? It came with the original string (I guess from Gibson) and now it's time to replace them.

I am looking into Martin, Daddario and also Gibson, but there are so many. I play finger style , not. much strumming, some jazz and also believe it or not, some gipsy jazz on this guitar, that is wonderful.

Any advise would be great.

Thanks

Welcome to these boards Walt.   There's a thread concerning strings  down there a bit.   It's too bad that strings cost too much and are somewhat time consuming to put on that it isn't possible to try several brands out before finding one you really like.  And the tastes and preferences for strings are as individual and numerous as the members of this forum,  so I can only offer best wishes for an interesting and informative journey.  [wink]

Thank you for your reply.

I also play double bass in a symphony orchestra and db strings are really expensive (300-600$ ) thus the time consuming of replacing or testing strings is quite overtaken by the economic part... with the guitar it is basically only the nuisance of replacing them, the cost being almost neglibible.

I nailed down my preferences for my electric (ES 335) to the Tomastik Infeld bebop strings, by I am a bit in the dark with my CW Sheryl Crow, so some basic guidance would be beneficial. I don't want to kill the beautiful sound and playability of the guitar with some bad strings.

Regards,

Well then it's simple.  Replace the old Gibson strings with new.  They're not all that bad.  But then it is all up to you.

And what orchestra do you play double bass for?

I play in a local Symphony Orchestra in Long Island , NY

I’ve got a similar model - a Hummingbird TV and have found my preference is Martin life span SP phosphor  bronze.  I guess they are “medium light”.
Never had a symphony on The Island when I was a kid. Or a n NBA team.  Or Iced Tea.

There are a few Symphony orchestra in Long Island and a Choir , covid-19 has stopped the activities for a while but now we are back, second concert of the year in May  , Tchaikovsky piano concerto n.1 , and other things.

As for the strings I'll start from Martin, and we'll see.

I grew up in Long Island, I live a little bit upstate now.   Maybe go with D'Addario if you want to support a local brand (their headquarters is in Farmingdale).  Also, buy a Snapple while you're at it.  😁

Daddario is very close to my office. I have Daddario on my classic guitar. Excellent strings, but I didn't particularly liked the ones on my Double Bass, but that's a totally different business than guitars. So many factors in the mix and the costs another big factor. There is a used string market , so at list you can do some testing and get back part of the money. It took me several years to finally find the mix of strings that I think sound better on my bass for the orchestral repertoire, and some alternatives for solo tuning.

Be careful to get the right ones. They have several choices, and unfortunately I forgot the ones I tried that in less than a month sounded like I still had the originals on my guitar, which was nearing 30 years old at the time.

Murph up there mentioned GHS.  After getting my then long neglected '72 Epiphone  overhauled the luthier put a set of their phosphor bronze strings on it.  I thought they sounded pretty good.

I'd suggest to give some D'Addario XS stings a shot sometime.   Not a too expensive as an experiment but, note that they are pricey for a set of strings.

They are treated but they really don't feel sound and wear like other coated/treated sets

They last a real long time.
