First thing I saw were the man hands. They're a little large.

Usually I am a lurker here, but had to chime in to congratulate your father for his art and you for your 45 and 50. Enjoy them both!

After 25 years of lurking on the Acoustic Gibson Forum, the nice old impressionist paintings made you chime in. 🤓  Stay around, , , you are weird enough. .

I know it sounds weird, but I am not expert on acoustic guitars so I come here to learn. I own a Gibson J-45 Original 50s however that I truly love.

If there was a Dial a Guitar Prayer hotline, mine would be for Bozeman to come out with a late-1950s or 1960s inspired J45/50 with 20 frets and the big pointy pickguard which sported the non-scalloped bracing Gibson went with in 1955. I really liked the sound of those guitars.

You are some four or five years too late as I am still in that place where I have absolutely no interest in acquiring another guitar.   My second favorite slope shoulder jumbo though remains a 1956 Southerner Jumbo. This is the instrument where the notion that some of the worst mistakes I ever made were trading or selling off guitars came home to roost. Over a decade later I still think about and miss the thing.

Understood - those black nut Standard are terrific. Mine from 2010 has discretely grown to the top of the herd. Happens after the quite tight compression lost it's grib.
Sometimes I wonder what would happen if the steel-mill Grover tuners were switched to some ovals.

Nod, I compared it to a new one at our other shop and yep, 7 years makes a heck of a difference. We got tied up in yardwork today, so I’m playing chicken it will still be there when I can get free this week.  Still wanna play it one more time before I pull the trigger.

I want to circle back a little.

I have been ill for a few weeks culminating with pneumonia and a several day hospital visit this week, so playing hasn’t been tops on my list. I know I’ll never smoke again. Of course I’ve always known better, but…

I had better start playing now though, as I have a string of gigs starting in two weeks. Anyways this week I will try to change both strings to identical sets and record for you all. I still suspect the outcome will be that I couldn’t tell the difference blindfolded.

One more thing. My high school rock band… the one where we amazingly all still keep in touch with dinners and a group text… my other guitarist has fallen on hard luck. He is a chef who works seasonally in a nearby resort summer area, but just really did a number with a badly broken leg that jeapordizes that. He is stuck home and trying to write songs.  He has a cheap Martin Dread Jr.  he is a Gibson guy (Les paul). I think he is going to love one of my Gibsons, and I’m going to make that happen. I just can’t decide which one. I think I will keep the J50.

Sometimes we all get wrapped up feeling sorry for ourselves, and strings of luck. And it’s good to remember there is always someone with worse luck, and karma helps all.

Hope you feel better and fully recover from pneumonia asap.  Pneumonia can be a bear to have as can working to fully recover afterwards.  Take care of yourself.

I’m sorry to hear of your health issues, brother Sal.  Please take it slow and easy so you don’t multiply the issues.  Looking forward to your being back on top soon.

This sounds dire - wonder how the bugger got access to you now while the season is gettin' milder. .

I picked up the bug… metapneumovirus… at the same hospital two weeks earlier. I had taken a bad fall. When it rains it pours!

this virus does a number on folks who have smoked. Hits the lungs quickly.

back to work in the AM.

cheers all.

The invisible & unknown traps - theoretically waiting everywhere.

An open seemingly totally innocent buffet got me in the Feb. 2013. "A mild pneumonia", said the doc, who was kind enough to come by.                                                                                              Was so weak I hardly could reply "MILD ?!?"                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Took my hearing as well. 3 specialists was consulted after the pneu had left - "might be moisture in the tiny inner-ear-caves", they said.                                                                                                                                                                 This nitemare lasted all summer. .

Well. Been playing both the J-50 and the 45 wine red. Same strings (before yesterday). And the guitars are structurally and totally a toss up. They sound so similar, as I have mentioned.

A week from tomorrow I have a gig and will be dropping one of these off at my friends mothers house in Brooklyn.

I thought I’d keep the J50, but I’m torn. Ha!

Some flip a coin please.

Recommend seeing this as a luxus : Now you are free to judge by the cover, , , ,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            and as we know it sometimes represents some camel-swallowing to pick the best guitar with the second best look.

                                                                                                                          Be glad - send sounds
