djroge1
All, Just thought I'd pass along some information about something free. You can sign up and join the NRA for a free one year trial membership, but I've been told you have to sign up today. Free NRA Trial Membership For those of you who are anti-gun this thread is probably not for you.

TommyK
That reminds me, I need to renew my membership. Pay attention: "membership" The NRA is not a corporation, or Political Action Committee of corporations, but an association of individual members who believe and support the Constitution of the United States and it's Bill of Rights. grampa
The NRA is just a lobbying group like the ACLU or labor groups or AARP.
Cruznolfart
The NRA is just a lobbying group like the ACLU or labor groups or AARP. I like the training/educational/competition/safety type programs sponsored by the NRA, although I'm not always in agreement with all of their political policies and agenda. I don't see them in quite the same light as other lobbying orgs.
TommyK
The NRA is just a lobbying group like the ACLU or labor groups or AARP. Actually, no. It was orignially instituted to facilitate the lawful distribution of Army surplus rifles and pistols, to private citizens, in the early part of the last century. It is dedicated to the education and training in the efficient and accurate use of said weapons, for use in hunting, shooting sports, personal protection and national security, i.e. forming a 'well regulated militia'. It has only recently spent time educating the American public and politicians on the downside of abrogating the Bill of Rights, not just one, but all of them. TommyK
By the way, have you renewed your C.O.I.D (Computer Owners Identification) card? Have you registered your computer with the local, state and federal authorities? No? Don't need to? Thank the Bill of Rights.
grampa
Then you're saying they are a good thing? :- I don't have the negative view of lobbyists that seems to be prevalent these days. Lobbying is an important part of the democratic process. I know one of NRA's California lobbyists and so far I have not detected any horns growing out of his head. heymisterk
That reminds me' date=' I need to renew my membership. Pay attention: "membership" The NRA is not a corporation, or Political Action Committee of corporations, but an association of individual members who believe and support the Constitution of the United States and it's Bill of Rights.[/quote'] What you really mean is that the NRA supports the NRA's reading and interpretation of the Constitution of the United States and its Bill of Rights. Plenty of intelligent, educated people - including me - would argue that the NRA likes to use the Constitution and Bill of Rights as an excuse to advance it's own pro-gun agenda. Not a P.A.C.? Hmmmm. If it looks like a duck, if it walks like a duck, if it smells like a duck.... http://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/summary.php?id=D000000082 I can just as legitimately make the case that the Second Amendment doesn't say anything about an individual's right carry a concealed weapon, own an assault rifle, etcetera... This is why gun control is such a polarizing topic.
NeoConMan
The NRA is just a lobbying group like the ACLU or labor groups or AARP. NRA was around long before any such groups existed' date=' and well before our gov't was steered by them. It's a great organization, though they do tend toward a 'sky is falling' approach to soliciting donations from members. As far as gun laws are concerned, they are the Most Evil in the eyes of Liberals because they spotlight every piece of gun control or ban legislation submitted in all of the 50 states. They simply print the truth about the content of the bills and name every name associated with it. Sort of an Open Secret thing, eh? I've been a member longer than I can recall, and I've given memberships as gifts. This is why gun control is such a polarizing topic. And you're here to make sure it turns that way in the forum too, eh? First post here clearly states "For those of you who are anti-gun; this thread is probably not for you." I suppose you can stay for comic relief.... :D
