SweetMarie Posted January 10, 2010 Share Posted January 10, 2010 I’m new here without a lot to lose, so I’ll just say it… I don’t understand how a person can be banned for telling (and showing) the truth? The thread was about the blues and that photo and accompanying Billie Holliday quote were the utter essence of the blues. I don't think you really could have a real blues thread without having that discussion. If people felt uncomfortable being shown the reality behind the music they claim to love they could move on to another thread, but to have a knee-jerk reaction to an image without even attempting to understand the context surrounding it, well, I just don’t understand. The image is meant to disturb, to disturb and explain and remind us all of how bad it was, and how bad it could be again for anyone if we ever look away and forget. It’s part of our collective American past and if anyone came away better educated about the origin of the blues (and her baby, rock’n’roll), well more power to the poster! I realize many people come to this forum to escape…but trying to ban the truth because you don’t want to see it is just wrong. So in the words of Woody Guthrie…so long, it’s been good ta know ya! I can understand why Gibson wouldn't want that picture up on their site, it represents the company, and I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want someone to wander onto that page and see the picture up on a company site. It is a public forum, but is still run by the company. Cut them some slack. I agree that people are too uptight, but I don't know if we are talking about the same thing....
