OhioSlashFan
I have a Slash Sig. Les Paul Standard Plus and i want to put Grover Tuners on it. Are there tuners that will work without any modifications to the headstock?
brad1
Why do you want to do that? I think the vintage ones on there are more than fine. I also think they look better. But then, that's only my opinion.
OhioSlashFan
I seem to be having trouble keeping it in tune, was told grover tuners would be the way to go.
charlie brown
Well, if the tension on the truss rod is good, and the strings are nice and stretched, then, you might wan to try putting some graphite powder or ground pencil lead, in the nut slots, which should help or cure that. Probably NOT the tuners...but, who knows? Â Â CB
brad1
Before you replace the tuners you may want to look at some other possible causes. It could be the nut, or the bridge saddles. String(s) could be not moving freely in these areas. Perhaps you are using strings not suitable for that set up on your guitar. But if you really just want a different look, than I guess, go and do it. Don't know if they will drop right in.
OhioSlashFan
I'm using the Factory string's, i believe they are 9's
RotcanX
If they are the typical Epi green tuners, you will have to ream out the holes before Grovers will fit in. Â Definitely check your nut slots and also look at the bridge saddles; those V notches tend to hang up the wound strings; I like to round them out a bit with a small file. brad1
BUY NEW STRINGS!!!! There is no telling how long they have been on there. Or their quality.
OhioSlashFan
I did buy Ernie Ball Slinky's (10's) i will put them on and see if that will take care of it, if not i will take the other suggestions. Thank's for the input everyone.
brad1
That's exactly what I use. Hopefully that will do it. Let us know if it does, or not. Good Luck!
OhioSlashFan
I will thanks, but before this post fades away i do have a question if anyone knows? Why do the Epi. Standards and Standard Plus's come w/grover tuner's and mine came w/ Epi. tuner's?
charlie brown
I would guess it was to be faithful to Slash's guitar? Â CB
jfalkens
I seem to be having trouble keeping it in tune' date=' was told grover tuners would be the way to go.[/quote']Â Typical Epiphone. Â Unfortunately, they make awesome guitars and on some of the guitars they cheap off by putting crummy tuners on them. Â I just sent back a 2008 Casino, because it didn't have the Grover tuners like the ES-175 Reissue and Dots. The darn thing wouldn't hold tune. That Casino costs $600. Yours cost even more! Â Funny, the cheaper SGs and Les Pauls (not the bolt on guitars) come with Grovers, you would think that guitars that cost way more would come with them too. Slash Sig. would come with Grovers, it has Alnico pro 2's, how much more would it have cost to put Grovers on it? lol
matiac
My 2004 Classic came with Grovers (Asian) that are way better than even the Gibson tuners. I was constantly tuning that Gibson I had (kept going sharp), and I don't think I've had to tune the Blue one in a couple months...actually, I can't remember the last time I had to tune it besides tweaking a string after a tune cuz I was a little over-bendy, but that's normal anyway. I just assumed (dangerous thing to do) that because it was a "signature" guitar, that Epi would put it out, with ALL the correct specs, to his original Gibson...save the headstock and Epi name. WRONG, again...LOL! Â CB
jfalkens
No, I think Epiphone can make another $1.87 per guitar if they use crummy cheapo tuners instead of Grovers.
TWANG
if they are kluson style.. the square type tuner backs.. klusons should pop right in. you can even keep the green peg design if you like.
charlie brown
Yeah, and doesn't Grover make some "Kluson" style machines, too? Â CB
dubstar
the tuners on the epiphone slash are spec'ed as nickel...those are usually not "cheap"...the gibson $4,999 model has green keys, just like the epiphone...
