Junior24HR
I would like to put humbuckers into the Casino for noise reduction and because it is my preferred type of pickup. Any recommendations. Also, does anyone know what type of humbuckers are in the Sheraton, and if they are available - perhaps they would be a good match. Thanks
twiggy
why would you put humbuckers in Casino???? why?? if you prefer humbuckers, why did you buy casino at first? Don't do that mate. Better sell it, if you don't like it, to someone, who will appreciate Casino as guitar itself and buy yourself something more suitable (like dot or shery). pohatu771
You either have to cut out more of the Casino's top, or get P-90-sized humbuckers. I was discussing this on another forum, it may be possible to take mini-humbuckers and put them in a custom made dogear enclosure. Minis are the same size as a P-90. Other than that, cutting is your only option. I've searched, and never seen P-90 sized humbuckers. There's the P-100, which several Les Paul Juniors have, but it's not a true humbucker. Junior24HR
Thanks, this is the response I was looking for. I don't yet have the Casino, and was wondering if it was possible, have played it, but thought it was noisy, compared to my other 3 humbucker-equipped guitars. Information is much better than opinion.
tonedeaf1281734100
Well. I happen to have a Casino (with the pickups currently removed) a Gibson Les Paul, and a ruler at hand. The pickup cutouts on my MIK Casino are almost exactly as wide as the pickup mounting rings on the LP. You can't use the stock chrome Casino covers with humbuckers since they only have one set of pole piece holes which is centered on the cover. According to my measurements, Gibson humbucker mounting rings will just barely be wide enough to cover the pickup cutout on the front of the Casino. They won't be wide enough to cover the screw holes or the "footprint" that the stock Casino cover leaves behind. Maybe others here know if oversized humbucker mounting rings are available. I agree, don't do it. If you like Epiphones and you like Humbuckers buy a Sheraton or a Dot.

Parabar
Or if you want a true hollow body like the Casino, but with humbuckers, the Joe Pass Emperor II or ES-175 reissue.

Since I always like to help out a fellow guitar player, you go buy the Casino and then I'll trade you even for my Dot. If I'm not nominated for Sainthood, there is something terribly wrong in Rome. Notes_Norton
Seymour Duncan makes a Dog-Ear P90 sized humbucker: Seymour Duncan Link Why put humbuckers on a Casino? IMHO Emily Remler is a guitar goddess (I wish I could play half as good as she did) and she put humbuckers on her ES-330, which is essentially the same guitar as the Casino. The 330/Casino is lightweight, acoustic, has a great neck, and if you want a 6 pound guitar that you can practice on acoustically but want humbucker tone when plugged in, I see no reason why not put them on. It's just another mod, not sacrilege. ;) Insights and incites by Notes

Notes_Norton
Then "Off with your head' date=' too, Notes!" LOL! CB[/quote'] Ducking for cover ;) --------- But seriously, if I win the Lotto this week (fat chance) I'd get a new ES-330 and put those Duncan humbuckers in it. I'd choose the 330 only because of the higher fret access (note: Emily's 330 didn't have high fret access and she did more than OK with it, but she played a lot better than I do). Then I would have a classic ES-330 with the original P90s, a Casino with Seymour Duncan P90s, and a new ES-330 with humbuckers. But I would never do that to either the 330 or Casino I currently own. OK, CB, does that spare my head :D Notes

Junior24HR
The only reason I've considered this is because there's nothing in the price range 450-600 dollars, that has a fully hollow thinline body and a tailpiece, such as the Casino, and humbuckers. The ibanez artcores are not my thing, and I don't see a good thinline one anyhow.

charlie brown
To be honest, I'd love to see Gibson refine the P-100 to be tonally accurate, to the P-90 and be humbucking (as the P-100 is), too. But, then...I suppose those of us that like/love P-100's would be pissed! LOL! So...??? A bit of a "tail chaser," I guess? CB
Ron G
I played a used Ibanez AFS75 that was very nice - and only $199 at GC. Has all the features you're looking for. They sell for about $350 new.
tonedeaf1281734100
Another consideration might be buying a noise gate or noise reduction pedal for use with the Casino if it is just the P90 single coil hum you object to. I haven't use one, but I have read endorsements from Casino players who claim they work well. You could probably get one for less than it would cost to swap the two pickups. Perhaps someone here on the forum has some experience with these that they can share.

Parabar
Thinline doublecut full hollow body with humbuckers in the $450 - $600 price range? Two words: Gretsch 5122. Seriously, they're great guitars.
Stig
Guild/Dearmond Starfire <--- link I have a 1968 Guild Starfire. It's my absolute favorite guitar. Full hollow thinline with small humbuckers. For a while back in the 90's, Fender brought back the starfire as an inexpensive DeArmond. They're pretty good guitars. On closer inspection, it's a semi-hollow, too. But the single cutaway Guild Starfires are fully hollow. Dammit! Just found out they made the newer single cutaways semi-hollow, too! Never mind.
