What guage strings on a Sheraton (or Dot, or Casino, for that matter)?

My Sheri came with strings that I assume are 10s. In many ways it seems that a semi-hollowbody like a Sheraton would be suited to higher guage strings than normal, but then I think I may be missing some of the playability of 9s.

What do you prefer?

And would I have to adjust the guitar to change the type of strings? E.g. truss rod adjustment?

I have recently go from .09 to .10. on my Casino. It just took me less than a week to get familiar with it. Bend's are a bit harder at first and then the second day of playing is ok. You can still low the action if it is too hard.

I got the truss rod adjusted.

I went from .009s to .010s on my sheri. and like them.

I've tried .011s on the lp, with bigsby, and gotten used to them very quickly.

I think I may go back to .010s on the lp, and try the .011s on the sheri.

I like the fatter tone of the .011s, but I also like the flexibility of the .010s.

Any will work.

I have 10's on my Dot and a couple other elec's as well, although I have one guitar that came factory setup with 9's so I've left it that way. I enjoy the difference every now and then, but still prefer the 10's.

In addition to TR adjustment, you may have to change the size of the grooves in the nut (or replace the nut) as well I would think to avoid any string binding/tuning issues.

Epiphone Sheraton II 1996 Samick.

Tried several makes, several sizes - normal 10's were good, but not that good, 11's and 12's were not my style.

On the reco of Larry Carlton I fitted D'Addario LT/HB - 10,13,17,30,42,52

Great tone at the bass end, sweet and bendy at the treble.

Suits me, may or may not suit you.

I just put a set of Everly .011's on the sheri.

The bridge saddles are tall on sheris.

So the .011s had high action on the high side, even with the bridge lowered all the way.

so I put on my old bridge, which has the saddles filed down a bit lower, and they worked fine.

Now I have a use for that old bridge.. it's for .011s. *G*

I like Everlys a lot, I just have never had a bad set, or broken string, and they keep tone forever.

and I like the sound of the p90s a LOT with .011s.

I have .011s on the lp, which I put on for the bigsby, but I think I'll reverse this and use .011s on the sheri now, and .010s

on the lp. It stayed in tune with the first set of .010s I had on it, and I still want a bit more slinky feel on one of these guitars.

I think I would like a hybrid set.. .011s on the low three and .010s on the high three..

I'll have to look around and see who's making those.

had to reset pole pieces and pickup height. But it smoothed out quite well.

Im not a fan of D'Addario strings, they seem to slip too much to me. Im currently in love with Galli Strings, the pro coated (I use 9s) ones seem to last for MONTHS. seriously ive had mine on my riviera for about 3 months now and they STILL feel like new and no tone has been lost at all!. ( i also use them on my Cracked mirror when i do take it about)

For a bit more beef on my silverburst, i use 10s Roto sounds (Or Galli strings but they hard to get buy if you dont use the internets

Put me down on the side of the 11's.

I was a sworn D'Addario 10's fan for years, but the luthier I go to kept trying to get me to switch to 11's on my Casino, Zephyr, and Gibson-330. Finally tried the 11'sand I was hooked. They sound better and feel great on all my guitars.

If you haven't tried Snake Oil Brand (clearly named by a man who likes irony), I recommend them highly. They hold tune, sound really rich, feel good, and last FOREVER. SOBStrings.net is the website.
