o8jedi Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I'm pleased to announce that I have completed the mods I want for my Epi Les Paul. It now looks, sounds, and plays exactly how I want it. I've swapped out the pickups for a pair of Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates and had them wired Jimmy Page style. Also changed the pickguard and tuners. Anywho, here she is. While I'm at it, here's the rest of my musical stuff.
1999nbmZ1281734025 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Looking pretty good! Love the look of the Ebony standards. So did you do the complete JP wiring with all four push/pulls, or just the phase switching? Post up some pics of the wiring cavity if you've got some. Been trying to see how crammed everybody else's control cavities are...
o8jedi Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 All four. And yeah, it's pretty crammed in there. I'll see what I can do about pics.
TWANG Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Great job! and very cool looks, too. Bet it sounds fantastic! TWANG
jcwillow777 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I wished Epi put the keystone tuners on instead of the kidney shapes ones. It looks a lot nicer!
o8jedi Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 Agreed. But on the plus side, they just drop in no sweat.
fenrirlupus Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I wished Epi put the keystone tuners on instead of the kidney shapes ones. It looks a lot nicer!i think i like the kidney shaped ones... whatever... i must not be cultured or something :P
AyushPresley Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 It's looks amazing..Bet it plays great as well..I love the Tulip Styled tuners better..that too a green one.. Looks classic...
generation zero Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 I'm generally not a big fan of solid colors on a Paul, or pickguards... but I have to admit, the black-on-black is sexy! I think I would go one further, and get black pickup rings and toggle switch donut... I think I would go with chrome knobs of some type too. The amber seems to stick out IMO... If nothing else, take the pickup selector donut off entirely, and just have the switch by itself. Then get some black pickup rings, and some chrome knobs, or even black speed knobs. Then again, I'm one that can hardly ever just leave a guitar alone... if I keep a guitar more than 6 months I've usually swapped out knobs, pickup rings, and the like at least two or three times, sometimes more. It looks great the way it is! Nice guitar!
Dave Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Now we need some sound samples on the Jimmy Page mod... I've been thinking about doing that to mine. Here are some youtube links to the JP mod. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5I97IdsctCM&feature=related
IntelligentAl Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Wow, the black on black really does look nice. And the chrome tulip tuners are just amazing. Epiphone should definately make them standard, they just look better. GZ, I think if he swaps the pickup rings and pickup switch washer to black, it would end up looking to much like the 'Gothic' Les Pauls. Personally, I think it looks great how it is! Congratulations, you have an amazing looking guitar there. I hope it sounds as good as it looks!
Gordy01 Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Nice guitar. The tuners look nice. My question is how do the Pearly Gates pups sound? I'm thinking about a set myself.
o8jedi Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 The Gates are great-sounding as a set. Very nice clean sounds, but can get real dirty real fast. As promised, here's the control cavity to show what a Jimmy Page mod looks like inside.
