A legitimate Epi LP Black Beauty? serial no. LU09070022

If you'd look up some pics of real ones on the sites of bigger dealers like http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ENBBEBGH

you'll notice some subtle differences. Tunerstyle, trussrodcover shape etc.

Besides that Epiphone lost the factorydesignation(the first 1 or 2 characters of the serial) somewhere in the middle of 2008 IIRC.

From the pictures you've posted, it looks like a fake from the obvious 'tell tale' signs eg headstock logo incorrect, volume and tone pots not in line, and the serial number isn't correct in type-face/font size and factory code/numbers.

I would recommend contacting Epiphone at service.europe@gibson.com and verifying it, but I'd be prepared to hear the worst

Sorry!

Sorry, but it looks like a fake to me too.

1. Not Grover tuners.

2. TRC is wrong.

3. Knobs are off (bridge tone knob)

4. Epiphone logo and diamond don't look right.

If you are concerned about a guitar always ask before buying. Like was mentioned above, if it shipped directly from China, it's probably a fake. If it did, you are lucky you got anything.

I have a guitar that need to be checked whether it is real..

the serial number behind the Headstock is LU09070022

Does anyone know how to check it?

Thanks a lot

Have you bought it yet the consensus that it is a fake is pretty strong? If you bought it can you send it back?

Thanks for your great comments..

I havent bought it.. Planned it though..

This is from ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220550679551&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

He also sells Epi LP Standard & Custom...

And this is his gallery for that Black Beauty

There's also the other Std & Customs in that site.

Its like hard to buy a legit Gibson or EPi =.="

Hm..

If I buy it from a registered store, does it guarantee that its genuine guys?

I'm in Sydney Australia, and these are my options for the stores:

Thanks

If they are an Epiphone Dealer you will be good to go. Without knowing the stores you mentionied I can't say for sure, but if they sell NEW Epiphones it's gonna be safe. If you don't know what you are looking for, Ebay can be very risky. There are a lot of fake Epis being sold.

Alright then.. I think i know some places that for sure sell genuine Epis..

By the way, Just wonderring about Epiphone Les paul..

Any suggestions which should i buy?

I like Customs, because of the style (Diamonds, frame on the edged..) But, after i saw Black Beauty, its even nicer (3 humbuckers) (appearance-wise).

1st question, is EPi LP CUstom better (Quality & sound) than Standard & STudio ?

2nd, how about Black Beauty that has 3 humbuckers?

The point is, i'm considering about purchasing a good Epi (plan is not to modify any of the pickups.. Just stay as it is.. Maybe i'll install Bigsby on it)..

Play em all and don't make a decision just on looks IMO playability is the most important cause what good is a guitar that looks great but don't feel right and limits your ambition to play. I can't count how many guitars I bought due to looks and no longer have because as for as playability they weren't right.

Sure i'll try them out when i have time to go to the stores..

But just some suggestion and some more knowledge before i go there..

Knowledge regarding which is better..

Hm.. Are there any Ranks among those Epi LP? Std, Custom, Black Beauty.. (officially)

Ranks that count both looks & Quality...

Or not?

Exclude those 3 types, are there any more Epi LP that is recommendable?

And sure, once again, i will try the options that you all suggest me..

My point is, I'm planning to buy a sort of 9 out of 10 Stars Epiphone Les paul, assuming Epiphone Les Paul Junior is 1 out of 10 Stars.

So i do not need to pay any extra i.e. Lowering to a nice action high, canceling the buzz.. etc

Cheers

It's a subjective point of view if we know the style of music you want to play, whether you like a fat neck or slim neck, is weight or size a factor, big body, small body slim or thick?
