Today is a new guitar day for me. I got a 2001 Korean Epi Les Paul Plus top in honeyburst over the weekend for $300 with a case. If you haven't read the whole story about me trying to get this guitar you can find it here. The guitar is in great condition and sounds fantastic. The attention to detail on this one is immaculate. The honeyburst color is darker than the newer finishes I've seen (ex. RobinOttowa's beauty new honeyburst) but I think that the color/definition of an Epiphone "Honeyburst" has changed over time. I found a page out of a catalog from 2001 and it seems to be the far left in the picture below. Even though this guitar is 9 years old, it barely has any signs of being played. The frets are hardly worn down, the body and neck are in great shape, and there are only two noticeable dings on the entire guitar. It had a nice surprise when i bought it, upgraded Gibson vitage spec green-key tuners which are worth about $80 by themselves. And it has a mojo-cool beat up case. All the way around it's a keeper and is worth WAY more money. Anyway here are the pics.

One of the cleanest control cavities I've seen on an Epi Les Paul. Attention to detail is great on this one.

E09-ENSHBCH1.jpg2001 Catalog Page- it seems to match the honeyburst on the far left but not the newer finish ones I've seen lately. Either way it is a sweet finish.

She's a real beauty!

It always startles me how poorly Epiphone's stock "studio" shots fail to bring out the real beauty of these guitars. Then again, I''ve never been able to get a good shot of mine either ... flame tops especially!

Congrats!

and how much new pair of shoes...?

We spent 4 hours in the mall the day after I bought this. My wife is really cool though. She is a great singer (great bluesy tone). She's really cool with the guitar buying and she is NOT high-maintenance at all. I bought her a wireless microphone for valentine's day and she thought it was the best present she's gotten in a while.

Wow, nice guit! Congrats! Honeyburst seems to be very inconsistent from guitar to guitar, or run to run. You got a really nice top there, and I dig the colour. I also like that the Les Paul script is in a less heavy font than the newer ones, including mine.

I can't get over how clean the control cavity is- mine, like all of the others I have seen look like an elephant with a bristle brush painted the inside. I just finished gutting all of the wiring in mine and replacing with heavier guage cloth covered wire, Gibson pots, and new orange drop caps- I posted pics in my original thread. I found it made everything sound better and was the deciding factor in keeping the stock bridge pup.

Speaking of honeyburst finishes, if you want to see the bad end of the spectrum (from Gibson, no less) check out my thread for a chuckle. It started life as a Gibby LP Faded which I nitro refinished it to a faded burst and ultimately traded it for a Rickenbacker...

Yeah I saw that Gibby you had posted in your thread, no offense but even I did a better job on a guitar I *tried* to sunburst with a posterboard and thumbtacks LOL. I think the gold knobs look great on yours, but the amber ones look good on mine. I like what you said about it being amateur hour at Gibson that day on the honeyburst finish. Kinda makes you wonder "What's really better?: A new guy at Gibson in Nashville, or an asian luthier who has been making Epiphone Les Pauls for years..." I swear this weekend i went to a Gibson dealer (probably 20 Gibson's in stock) and there was a $2500 Les Paul whose top was a flamed plus top on one side and a plain top on the other. It made me laugh because I KNOW someone will buy it without walking around the corner and trying out the Epiphones.
