freak show
I've noticed that certain guitars are better for inspiring me to play something different than I normally play. I'm not exactly sure why, but it's much easier for me to come up with new chord progressions and play licks I have never played before on my LP Standard. The same is true of my D-18 acoustic. When I play these two, I just feel more creative... Can anyone else relate? If so, which of your guitars does it for you?

Something about my 2001 Am Std Fender strat gets creative juices flowing more. I can't explain it. It has become the guitar most used for writing new stuff. My jaguar puts me in a country picking mode (Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, etc)
Californiaman
For me it's that big Ol' hollow-body ES-175 of mine. Sure the Teles are great, but the 175 is what I do most of the writing with. Probably because I'm playing it acoustically before I plug it in. BigKahune
For me, certain guitars seem to pull different chordings and runs out of me. It's probably a synergy of what I can do with instrument and what emotions and memories I've associated with it.
cabba2203
I do most of my creating with my SG Jr. When I'm in a slump or have writers block, I break out the Jr., the neck on it is like one with my hand and I am free to unleash myself. Sometimes it takes playing a totally different guitar, every guitar has it's own persona and vibe to shape the mood.
Thundergod
For me is my blue tele... actually I don't think I play any of the others anymore. What a waste. I could have gotten this guitar 15 years ago and be done with it
Rocky4
For some reason, yellow appeals to me. I love Gibsons' TV Yellow and Fenders antique white (which looks yellow to me, I'm colorblind) with a white pick guard. Blonde Teles with black pick guards and maple necks say... play me. Dragoro
Im newer in the playing, so Ill say what inspires me to practice what. When it comes to just playing, or practicing songs, I look to my taylor acoustic. When it comes to practicing scales or finger work, I look to my les paul. milod
I agree with cabba2203 - even if perhaps were a generation or two apart in age. Each guitar I own seems to make me think and play somewhat differently. Sure, I'm the same guy, with essentially the same technique off and on for longer than I like to admit in some ways, but... the 175 body gets something from me the SG body doesn't, and it pulls something from me the 175 doesn't; ditto the old ovation steel and nylon twin EAs. We've yet to see how I get along with the new semi. But it, to, is a different sort of feel. m
retrosurfer1959
I write on my Hummingbird acoustic even if the song will later be for electric guitar.
NeoConMan
My home-built Ash Strat with P-90s seems to be the one that makes simply think "Oh, yeah...." When I'm trying to pick new stuff out, it's always seemed most fruitful with my 1993 American Standard Strat.
