what do you think of my progress so far

ok so i havent made that much progress but if you havent read my topic before im doing a les paul project from a lespaul kit.Im gonna be making a goldtop but for the headstock ive mesured out my headstock and everything on my gibson studio, what do you think so far this is exactly the right shape and length and everything. this is the kit im gonna be using, look at the headstock it isnt cut yet so gives me a good start at the neck -http://diyguitarshop.co.uk/content/images/kits/DKL03F/DKL03F_details.htm

Im gonna take the neck and mesure out the dimensions of my gibson and shape it to the width and length and curves of the neck. im gonna replace the binding on the neck and body and lastly i might replace the fret board from a broken neck of a gibson i got from my neighbor free. and also before anyone says anything about the les paul he gave me it isnt repairable and is useless but the fret board is in playing shape lol

pic of the headstock mesurement is at bottom and also this is just for the shape the actual paper cut out im gonna be using is gonna be made out of good old cardstock.

You do realize that making an exact copy of any Gibson is illegal, right?

And you do realize that you are posting this on the Gibson Forum, right!?

And you also realize that you could get some major fines or jail time because of this, right!!??

.........Well good luck with all that.........You might come up with something that looks similar to a GIBSON

.....but it wont be one ........and will probably be about unplayable.....now it might be an enjoyable project.......but

......

If you want a a dam nice guitar that you can play anything on.......get an actual Gibson

Two of your three statements are wrong. Check with your lawyer.

Ok I dont mean to be smart or anything but thanks to everyone that is supporting me and lastly.Everyone that is saying I will get sued or arrested or I should be please get your facts right. The only way I will be arrested or sued is if I sell that guitar saying it is an actual gibson les paul im making this for my enjoyment not trying to scam someone out of alot of money.I may be 14 but i know whats legal and what isnt and also i have some experience behind me making les pauls but anyone with right sense would be able to point out many things that shows its not a really gibson and would in return get me in deep trouble.

i will keep my project updated and hopefully it will turn out as good as some as my other projects, talk to you all later bye.

Not that I would defend for a second anything our friend is building, but...

What about Gibson making an exact copy of an exact copy of a Les Paul?

Who gets sued now?

[blink]

You are sooooo right.

How about - "the guitar that saved rock 'n roll".

Oh Lordy. [rolleyes]

I hope it turns out as "good" as your other projects, too.

But from here, it seems like you might benefit from learning how to post pics properly...

Also, from the looks of your headstock template, I doubt if that will get you "close enough" to get sued. It looks a little rough to me.

The funny thing is I know everything about his les pauls even down to what capasitors he had in his afd les paul. And the ones currently used in the afd replicas which is a very big impact on its tone,i have a pair of seymour duncan alnico 2 pros that were made in 1986 that were also wound by marcelia juarez which is the lady who wound slashs alnico 2 pros that i got from some guy for like 80 dollars that had no idea what he had and there also reverse zebra color lol ive been very lucky on acuiring this type of things for a slash lunitic like me.

original srv wasnt made by fender and I dont exactly know the whole story but certain things ive seen him say about it on interviews show that it definatly wasnt a fender one was it was made out of basswood, im sure fender has made a strat out basswood but never has been popular to what i have herd lol.He of course was endorsed by fender evetually but it was never a real fender.

hotshot, I hope it turns out well DIY stuff is always frustrating but can be fun and rewarding.

As an aside, consider yourself very, very lucky you're not making an SG or talking about anything to do with Angus Young, because Tman would be all over you for it. He'd be all like " [cursing] "

Good Luck!

lol thanks ill remeber that but ive never been into ac/dc I know angus young is a good guitarist. But ive only liked like one song and it was because of the riff and of course it was back in black but the biggest reason is I cant stand the lead singers voice.

Ac/Dc has had two vocalists, Bon Scott was the man RIP

It wasn't a reference to liking AC/DC so much as Tman flips his lid whenever anyone does or says anything he doesn't agree with when it comes to AC/DC, SG's or Angus. He's like you kinda but all about Angus instead of Slash.

Anyway, I looked it up, "Lenny" SRV's number 2 guitar was actually a real Fender Strat that he got for his Birthday in his late 20's from his wife. It was 350$ that she didn't have but collected 50$ from several people to be able to afford it. It was bought from a pawn shop apparently, and he was so chuggered the night he got it that he stayed up all night and wrote the song "Lenny". Where you said it wasn't a Fender isn't 100% true BUT, Billy F Gibbons gave him a new maple neck to put on his Fender Strat that he put on himself. There are grains of truth to what you said.

Here's the whole story as told by Fender, take it with a grain of salt;
