Acoustic vs Electric music

I am noticing a vast difference between my acoustic stuff and my electric stuff. First of all, it is way easier to write acoustic stuff for me, and I really don't know what is going on. I think I might just work on releasing an acoustic album or something...

I can't seem to write any good stuff for electric of late. Help? Tips? Ideas?

Try writing electric music "Bass First". Even if you don't have a bass, try coming up with a Bass Line on your guitar then write the guitar part around it.

I have similar trouble writing from the electric guitar, it comes out blues most of the time. So when I want a rock tune or metal or whatever I have to write a bass line first.

Yeah, I'll have to try that. I do have a bass, I'll have to play around with the bass lines then.

Thanks

I think in ways there's a tendency to think "folkie" when one is playing an acoustic. At least that's definitely the case for me.

I wrote a piece with an acoustic that I want to be more "electric" if you will - and concluded it's entirely a matter of changing the whole arrangement and adding more rhythm "thump" to it.

Just a thought.

sell your soul to the devil?

Even the devil is getting tighter with a dollar these days.

Even when you've got an infinite supply of dollars, they

still keep depreciating, relative to other currencies ....

He may be "a man of wealth and taste", but he's been

getting a bit tattered around the edges lately.

Get a cheapo KB and write on that, whether you can play it or

not. It's a neutral ax relative to your acoustic-electric quandry,

and you don't need to be a gigworthy player on it just to use it

for writing. You'll start thinking of music more broadly, not just

as the voice of one of your guitars.

IOW, you can take advantage of the fact that you "really don't

know what is going on". Sneak up on yourself and take you

by sooprise ! You won't even know what hit you.

Then will come the magic day when you can "write" a tune just

by humming it or scatting it [pocket recorder is very handy .... ].
