Kimbabig
Yesterday, I was listening to some Chicago Spanish station and I heard a song with accordion solos, they reminded me of Allan Holdsworth. It just made me think that shredding branches to all instruments. It's been said before, but now I truly understand. Oh and I'm hoping my harmonica comes in today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfLhnkme2mE
Murph
There are some "ROCKIN'" Cajun Zydeco bands, Wayne Toups, ect., in South Louisiana. I lived there for years. Jerry Garcia called Scotty Stoneman the Jimi Hendricks of the fiddle. And he was. Chris Thile is a MONSTER mandolin player. Bela Fleck, Noam Pikelny KILL a banjo. Yea, some guitar players are better than others, too...........
L5Larry
Years ago I was listening to a Frank Zappa interview on the radio. He went into a typical FZ rant about the accordion, and described the that is air pushed of one out as some of the foulest smelling stuff on the planet. I've never gotten close enough to one to verify his description. My jazz big band recently did a concert with a symphony orchestra at a local college. The guest soloist with the symphony was an accordionist from Austria. I thought it was a pretty odd concept, but it was very interesting, and added some very nice flavor to the orchestra. Murph
Actually, the more I think about it, shredding was probably INVENTED by mandolin players. I'm gonna stand by that until proven wrong. Uploaded with ImageShack.us
brundaddy
I dunno, some outrageous classical compositions were out a long time ago too. Paganini comes to mind... I love me some accordion though. Had a badass zydeco band play my wedding.

Versatile
The accordion is often maligned, but for me it is an instrument with huge potential From Scottish dance music, Irish celidh, Cajun stomp, Classical, Jazz One of the first instruments to be midi'd in quantity It can handle bass lines and produce a full orchestral sound I dig it somewhat V
