BigKahune
. Interesting. Looks similar to Gibson's lap steels from the 1930s.
rct
I think I remember as a kid seein that they only made like, four of them, and that all of the existing Songsters have differences significant enough betwixt them that there really is no one single Songster. That is what I think I remember. I think it is mentioned in Smiths book about Leo, in that Leo knew about that Songster after he made a Broadcaster/Esquire/Telecaster to be, or as he was making the pine bodied first two. Somewhere in there. I don't think the Songster is a startling find like some have tried to make it these past couple years. I also believe it was not ever produced beyond prototype, kinda like Paul BeegsBee and his BeegsBee guitar. rct

jnastynebr
It would be an old Hawaiian lap steel. Those have been around since the 20s.
Silenced Fred
but aside from lap steels, is the rick like a normal guitar? or is it a lapsteel?
BigKahune
. The Ric is an electric "Hawaiian" or slide or lap steel. And your Slingerland link is a regular "Spanish" solid body electric guitar.
