Plus Top Dan
Last week I purchased a cherry ES339 Pro. I can't believe what a bargain these guitars are!! The coil tapping is a nice feature and sounds good, although I prefer the full humbucker sound for the majority of what I play. I know there's been quite a bit of chat on here about the 339 pro & ultra guitars, all I can say is for £299.00 it's too good a deal to ignore!! I find access to the higher frets so much easier on the 339 than I do on the Strat & LP. It's very comfortable and looks great. I've attached a couple of photos but they don't do the pattern of the wood grain any justice. Any other happy owners of the 339 out there?? DADDEO
Congrats on the new 339 Dan. They really are lovely guitars to look at and hold, and the coil split is an excellent addition. I nearly bought one early this year, but I can't get over the lack of a forearm chamfer.
guitar dog
You're right - great guitars for the price (even though I missed the price drop). I can't resist the opportunity to post pictures of her again!
brianh
Nice Cherry Pro Dan, congrats! I may just have to get a standard 339 Pro myself they are a true bargain. Now that my Ultra 339 is back from Nashville, it's one of my favorite guitars, ever, even with only one f-hole.

Alanbama
Congrats on the new 339! I have a Natural one that I have had for a couple of weeks now and I dearly love it. It's become my main guitar and the access to the higher frets is outstanding as you say. I wish you many happy years of playing! Here is a pic. I removed the pick guard and changed the knobs. I just like these metal knobs.

newlife15
Get the 339. It's an absolute bargain and after playing my Gibson es339 and the epi 339 get the epi. Great value and most important great sounding guitar period. IMHO one of the best deals out there. Just give it a good setup and away you go........ :-)
harleytech51
These certainly are handsome guitars and represent fantastic value for money...Epiphones are very very good guitars that theres no doubt about..Ive personally owned some, my last was an Epi Les Paul Custom Plus in wine red (i think it was around a 2004 but cant clearly remember) with all the gold, pearl, bindings etc that you could ever wish for and with exposed humbuckers, it played brilliantly with a lovely low action and looked superb..By chance i happened across a Gibson LP Classic 60's in Heritage Cherry Sunburst it was a couple of years older than the Epi and i have to say visually nowhere near as attractive but when i played it icouldnt believe that there cold be so much difference when compared to what id thought to be a near perfect guitar..The Gibson was on a private sale at a knockdown price as the owner was strapped for cash and so the purchase was made and i parted with the Epi, and luckily made a nice profit on it too..I then really wanted a second guitar and due to the excessively high prices of the Gibson ES335 etc which i had a fancy for i started looking at another Epiphone..I purchased a natural Epi Sheraton from 1988, gold hardware, tortoise-shell pickplate and a fabulous original hardcase...The guitar was one from Korea and had the Gibson By Epiphone headstock along with the "Vine of Life" and those lovely Pearl/Abalone block fretmarkers, still had its original serial number sticker too and was confirmed by Gibson to be the genuine article, age, country of manufacture etc...It weighs a ton..lol...I was immediately smitten with the sheer beauty of this guitar and vowed it was a "keeper" as it had no buckle rash, nothing more than a couple of very minor dinks and was afterall 24 yrs old......Then what happened?? Just two weeks ago i was told of a guitar that had been up for sale about 9 months ago but had been withdrawn from sale due to the owner changing his mind..It seemed the guy had just bought a new guitar and was again putting the guitar back up for sale...A Gibson ES-333....I felt history was repeating itself, i couldnt believe it when i tried this guitar which had also been given an expensive pickup upgrade, long story cut short,i bought the guitar and havent put it down since....lighter than the Sheraton, slimmer/thinner neck, fantastic action and this thing sings the Blues like you wouldnt believe..I have to conceed that the Sheraton rally does look far better finished than the Gibson, especially around the F-holes etc and the Gibson hasnt any of the decorative bling, all in all the Epi has it in the looks department, it also plays and indeed sounds brilliant until compared to the Gibson..Ive been lucky enough to do side by side comparisons as i did with the Les Pauls and my experience definately confirms that of the two the Gibsons both were definately better from a playing point of view..i cant expalin it other than to say if youve ever picked up a guitar and instantly you just known "its the one" thats how they felt to me, like a great fitting pair of boots...they just feel right...Im sure theres many out there that will have different opinions or have had different experiences to those of mine but im just telling how i found the two when compared....Personally i dont hold with the snobbery side of guitar ownership, its all about what you like and what your budget allows, furthermore i dont hold the view of others that Epi's are in anyway poor mans Gibsons or Budget Guitars..This they most definately are not, they are fantastic well made instruments in their own rights without any doubt but i do have to conceed that by paying the extra for a Gibson you are definately getting something for your money that the Epi's dont have BUT i also conceed this difference does NOT in any way justify the enormous difference in price that exists between the two makes, also were all aware of the Quality Control issues that can exist with Gibsons whereas these seldom exist with Epi's, how come a cheaper instrument from a higher volume maker with lower labour rates can get it right and give such a fine and often detailed finish to their guitars when you can pay big bucks for a Gibson and get QC issues....Makes for interesting considerations doesnt it?? Im now unsure what to do but im feeling the 1988 Sheraton will be sold now as im not playing it and as beautiful as she is its wrong to sit in a case unloved and unplayed when out there somewhere someone will cherish this fine guitar...... Just wonderin where you found those if you can remember. Thanks..

Here's some not very good pics of my new Ebony 339, my camera always turns out grainy inside..lol. With the Ebony there is no wood grain, not sure if I am glad I chose the Ebony ofver the other colors, but it is what it is. A pretty nice guitar. I lowered the action (a lot) and put my choice of strings on it and I really like it now. With my Dot in the background...
