Pffft, the Rolling Stones are THE MOST OVERRATED rock band ever....Yes, they do have a few good songs and when they're good, they are great classics, but put them against their peers like The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and their catalog just does not stand up...

Uh oh, now you've done it! I'm going over into the corner to pick, hoping I don't get hit by any shrapnel.

I'd love to, but I'm in the middle of a photo shoot for a new avatar, these fishnet tights are killing me.... As for the Stones, well, there was just no talent left after the departure of the under-age encounters enthusiast and part time elephant man impersonator, Bill Wyman. Their legal liability exposure may have dramatically decreased for each tour, but the ugly one was the natural and musical viagra of that now flaccid setup.

As for the Stones, well, , , ,

My thoughts go back to the summer of 2006 when I heard Midnight Rambler in an open field of almost biblical dimensions. In those blue sparks blitzing from the stage castle, some of the best rock'n'roll I ever witnessed was happening right before me. That song alone was worth the trip, , , and this little discussion.

PM
, do you intend to shock me for the third time, , , , with that upcomin' avatar. . .

Few years to go yet Derek, but that's the plan....

..probably got the blood coursing through your veins for a couple of minutes though, Del. :D

Yep, it was great.

Clichéd but true enough. Better PA systems, lighting and looser women, technically you could argue it was better than the 60's.

Who would have thought American white males would still be making the "Rap ©rap" joke after all this time for a genre more than 30 years old now, often in a post that has the audacity to include the word 'respect' somewhere too. Life's little ironies can be so amusing.

Doesn't surprise me at all....

Look man, I'm not judging you for being a Bros fan, I bought a BoneyM single once..... we all have our skeletons.

OK I don't want to break up this love fest, but, Iknow there are some DJs out there but most "festivals" that I see, a relatively large number, may have a host, announcer, emcee, whatever, the festivals are built around live acts performing (mostly) original music. I have lots of friends who play out and they all do gigs like this and the musical genre goes from one end of the spectrum to the other. Matter of fact there is a three day Halloween festival starting today just eight miles from my house. Live music on three stages from noon until 2:00 AM About 30 different groups or solos performing including good friends and neighbors .

Hey, Herb vs Sergio - who's the best?

I'll take 'Taste Of Honey' any day of the week, dude!

I'm thinkin........just remarked to the wife last night about my taste, and the tast of almost everyone I knew at that time in what was classified as RnR in the late 50's early 60's

Alpert and Mendez ? methinks that's jazz ? Ferante and Tiecher, Mancini, Oh wait, that's jazz as well.

So much good music, so many choices.

Although the Beatles (got to see them live early on in Germany by the way) and the Stones certainly had an incredible indelible effect on the music world and perhaps the entire world, but there were so many better musicians out there.

Gotta go with Brazil 66 not so much 88. perhaps much of it due to the lovely backup senoritas

more than anything, mas que nada ???? no one...nick, Em7... surely there's some rudimentary spanish out there

try and do one little wordplay and no one even smiles [sneaky]

Literally "more than nothing", although it's Portuguese rather than Spanish, even though the words are almost the same in this case. It's a colloquial expression, sort of like a shrug of the shoulders.

Admit I really enjoyed this stuff back then, but it was also about this time that I discovered Miles Davis, Coltrane, Charlie Parker, and Bill Evans. They were on a different planet compared to this very enjoyable "pop jazz".

I will also admit that I still have a bunch of Tom Jobim on my ipod, as well as Miles and Bill Evans.

Spent a month working in Rio a couple of years ago, living in a hotel right off Ipanema. It felt like living in a constant state of saudade. Brazil is a samba, and a beautiful one, if you can get past the crime and poverty.

How could you pick one of those two? But those ear rings get me going.....

In all seriousness, I think Brasilian women are just about the most beautiful in the world.

Grew up in Detroit in the Golden 50's and 60's....saw them all until the early 70's-one of them being the Stones(twice) Once opening for Stevie Wonder and once with Rod Stewart....Don't think they were as good as I had hoped. Stevie Wonder on the other hand IS sensational. Glad they still can bring what they have left in the tank to perform at their advancing age...must be those blood transfusions...or in Keith Richards' case electric shock treatment!

my favourite bit is around 45 seconds when the guy switches from tambourine to playing a tube of pringles ..... once you 'pop' you cant stop

It may look like a can of Pringles, but it's probably a shaker, which is a classic latin and African percussion instrument that comes in many forms. Pringles, as I found out, were first released on an unsuspecting public in late 1968, and it's been downhill ever since.

I was once addicted to them. They are great boat snacks.
