Casino p90s

Hey everyone, I have a standard Casino I just got in a trade and love it. Sounds and plays great but I noticed on my local craigslist that a guy in the next town has the complete wiring , switches, jack and p90's that he pulled from a Lennon model Casino. I know from upgrading my Kat that the pup covers on Casinos and Kats are not the same as regular Gibby or Epi p90s, I am assuming there should be no difference and almost a drop in exchange between the Lennon pups and parts and the standard I have. Any thoughts or input? I may not even upgrade it as I do not have the money or skill to do it myself at the moment but I figured his asking price was so nice that it would be worth it to buy and hold onto for the Gibby pups and switchcraft parts! [biggrin]

first.... he is asking $75 but I offered less and he accepted

second..... he said he "upgraded" to some SD antiquities or something along those lines, not sure why one would take out the switch craft components as well....

third...... he posted a picture of everything and the pups say ep-90 and everything else has the right markings! Here they are!

Good pics.

All that being as it is, I would call it an excellent deal.

Hope you decide you can afford it. I doubt you would ever regret it.

As to doing the work yourself, it is nowhere near as difficult as it may seem. (especially as you have the complete harness)

Don't sell yourself short on skill.

If you decide to go through with it there are a number of DIY threads here as well as videos on youtube.

I'm sure many of the members, including myself, will be happy to direct you to them.

Best of luck,

Willy

I have one of the first 50 John Lennon 1965 Casinos made and even though I haven't taken out the pups the info that came with it said that the pups were made by Gibson and were made to have the pole pieces spaced to the same specs as John's own Casino. If the pups were actually made by Gibson then one would think they should have the Gibson logo on them rather than the Epi logo and to me $75 seems like a very low price for John Lennon Casino pups that were supposed to be Gibson made.

This has been the source of discussion & some confusion in the past.

EP-90 USA pickups were definitely stock on Elitist Casinos,

And Elitist literature says the pickups are made by Gibson in the USA.

Each Elitist pickup had it's own model designation, apart from Gibson's.

But I can also tell you this:

When I purchased my Elitist Casino new,

the pickup covers showed a slight discoloration

after removal of the plastic protective covering.

I called Gibson & asked if they could send me new covers.

Instead they sent a set of new EP-90 pickups - from Nashville.

Actually, I wonder if this harness didn't come out of an IBJL Casino rather than a 1965. I had an IBJL briefly and the pickup labels and pots look right, and I think the IBJL had a Switchcraft jack and switch but not sure. Can't imagine someone pulling the guts out of a 1965, but who knows. Regardless of what they came out of, those pickups and electronics are still a good deal at $75 and I think a worthwhile upgrade to a standard Casino.

Yes. Both jack and switch are Switchcraft on the IBJL.

Hey poosicle,

What was the outcome of your upgrade ?

How did the install go and how does it sound compared to the standard casino pickups?

I am currently considering a pickup change(not sure to what) but would like to know is there a noticeable difference in tone.....

Thanks

Roy....,
