Epiphone strap locks

Welcome to the forum Steve. I'm not familiar with those strap locks, I have only ever dealt with schaller. But in this video , which shows how the Epi ones work, they look a lot like schallers. Oh ya, here's your forum warming present. +1

I'm glad to see someone else with strap lock questions and hope someone can guide me to the right solution. My new Epi LP Traditional Pro doesn't have strap lock buttons on it and I want to updgrade them. Seems like the ones in the youtube video never made it to market. All the other brands I've researched appear to need modifications done to install (drilling, gluing, tooth picking???) that I'm not ready to do. Anyone know where to get the authentic Epi locks or a suitable other brand that won't require me to alter the original installation? Thanks to all in advance.

The ones that came with the guitar look like they have a type of circlip attached to it. The circlip does move a little bit but does not spin around like it seems it should to actually lock in place and if it did it would be very difficult to remove strap with it in place on guitar. Am I missing something or is this just a terrible design? [confused]

Tweed,

Thanks for the warming present and the video! [thumbup] Those don't look like the ones that came with my Legacy LP. I described them in a tread below. I will try to take some pictures this weekend that might show them better than I can describe them. Have a great day!!!

Schaller strap locks will allow you to use the same screw that Gibson ships to secure the strap buttons.

All you need to do is carefully unscrew, and put the new button on, and carefully replace the screw. Yer DONE!

I have these on ALL of my Gibson guitars except my 135 (2 lps, 2 sgs) and I used the stock screw with all of them.

just a Phillips head screw driver, and 5 minutes is all you need.

My experience has been different. The epi screw has a slightly larger head, but, you can file it down and use it with the Schaller strap locks. On a casino is was just on little. On a LP tribute plus, much more filing was required.

The epi strap locks are ok, for free ;). The Schallers are better imho.

either drill a little, & use the Schaller screws

or

use the origional screws, tape the threads & insert them in the same drill...and run the head over a file until the anchor slips over it.

careful, the screwhead will be quite hot for a minute afterwards.

haven't run into that, the stock screws in three cases where I put them on my Epi archtops have worked perfectly.

I think i am having a problem because the strap locks the guitar came with are 2 pieces similar to the video but would not I need 4 pieces? 2 pieces for the bottom and 2 for the top? Sorry first strap locks I have ever seen xD

I have put Dunlop locks on my 5 electrics, including an epi les paul and es-339 and none have needed any modification, just screw in. I am very happy with them.

I prefer Dunlop because they don't stick out as much as other strap locks. They installed perfectly with my Gibson Les Paul, but on my Epi SG G400, the screw slipped and I ended up snapping the neck. I ended up drilling out around the hole and glueing in a piece of wood and now have the strap lock securely in the new wood.

OK I picked up my epiphone les Paul traditional pro from G.C. and no straplocks, I have seen other post where the trad. Pro was missing straplocks from alot of other guitars and most seemed like they purchased the guitar from G.C. I contacted Gibson warranty and they sent me my straplocks, they worked perfectly, no mods at all just mounted to my strap and slidon, locked and release front the button with ease.
