AndyK
My newspaper said that the Hendrix family are selling a black Strat that belonged to Jimi today. However I can't find anything on the interweb thingy. It's expected to reach £600,000.
btoth76
Hello! Wasn't it up for auction already in 2012? According to BBC: http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-20521413 Cheers... Bence
btoth76
Yes... It got sold on 28 November 2012 (70th birthday of Hendrix) for 180,000 ($287,500) at The Fame Bureau auction in London. Cheers... Bence
pippy
Maybe there's a different black Strat coming up for auction today?..... P.
Pesh
Or could it be the person that bought it a few years ago, is selling it?
btoth76
I couldn't find any recent posts about it on the internet. All on this subject is from 2012. But, if it is the Hendrix family who is putting up a guitar for auction, it has to be another one. Since the one above has been already sold. Cheers... L5Larry
You would have a hard time proving provenance on the above pictured guitar to me. It sure has severe right-handed "arm-rub" to have been owned and played by a famous left-handed player.
btoth76
Hello! Believe me Larry, I didn't own, or do own this guitar. :D I even doubt, one can follow guitars that were owned by Hendrix... Cheers... Bence

AndyK
Ah... so it ain't black, but it IS for sale. If 600 of us chip in £1000 each, I'll take care of it.
Marshall Paul
You would have a hard time proving provenance on the above pictured guitar to me. It sure has severe right-handed "arm-rub" to have been owned and played by a famous left-handed player. Well picked mate. All the wear and rub is right hand caused. Although, they've strung it for left hand. Mmmm....... lol
Marshall Paul
I read somewhere once that he had 11 strats as his main core of instruments, and that most were the Olympic White. I think the family estate still has most of them.
Marshall Paul
Would still be going to beat the sale price of Clapton's 'Brownie'.....$957,500US. WOW!
jdgm
I googled 'Hendrix Monterey images' and yes, he was playing a black Strat with r'wood neck....can't see any wear on the upper bout though like Bence's pic. That one apparently 'belonged' to ex-roadie 'Tappy' Wright who notoriously claimed that Mike Jeffery had murdered Hendrix; a claim made in order to sell his rotten book (Wright eventually admitted he'd invented the story). The other black Strat you often see in pics and film of Jimi ('Lulu show') is the maple-necked one which Monika Dannemann had after his death and later gave to Uli Jon Roth. It sure has severe right-handed "arm-rub" to have been owned and played by a famous left-handed player. One thing I notice these days, is a LOT of guitars said to be this or that have very weak provenence. For some reason, provenance in the guitar world doesn't exist at all. And when they have been dis-proved, it STILL doesn't matter.
