  1. Mahogany????.... I thought all Gibson Norlin Era Necks were 3-piece Maple
  2. Do you still have them (Shaws)????? I'll give you $300 for the pair
  3. I'll try to make this story as short as possible: My pops worked with a dear friend (Patrick) as a butcher at Gemco back in the 70's-80's and I just heard from him as he just found out my pops passed away, and he asked if I was still playing guitar. Patrick used to moonlight at Charvel in the late 70's as a tech and eventually had his own side business for guitar repair and such. He was telling me he doesn't work on guitars anymore and he has some Charvel necks from the late 70'' and tons of tools and guitar parts. I told him I was mostly into Gibson guitars over the last 25 years, and he said he had some Gibson necks from the late 60's early 70's that don't have fret-boards when he was a "Repair Guy" for Hanich Music in West Covina as he did some warranty work for Gibson at the time. Hanich would drive the work over to his house. He said his memory was a little fuzzy but he was installing truss rods on both of them and when Hanich Music closed down he kept the necks and a bunch of other guitar parts. I asked him what wood species the Gibson necks were and he said they were one piece mahogany and the tenon joint was medium to long type on both. and the necks are sanded bare...... I always thought Gibson Norlin Necks were 3-piece maple... I dunno. Anywhoo, he told me if I want to do a road trip to Hemet CA, I can take everything he has collected for $0.00... The only catch is he wants to hang out and have a lunch and talk about old times, as he thought the world of my pops.
  4. Thanks Again I buy StewMac tools all the time.... ya they are pricey, but they have always made projects easier.... especially for a hobbyist like myself that needs all the help they can get
  5. Most of all my Gibson's have been switched out to the Tim Shaw era pickups. I still have four pairs from my buying spree from 2010 to 2012 where I purchases a total of 20 pairs. Now they are just too expensive. For me they have a nice bitey tone with tons of clarity whether you are distorted or clean. Of all the Gibson pups I have tried, for me the Tim Shaw era pups are by far the best for what I do. See the below video when I first received my Pro Tools Recording program and I recorded a little guitar lick using my VOX AC50 and my 1980 Les Paul Custom.
  6. Same here..... I had no clue Steven Tyler could play the spit-rail with that much feel...... Excellent!!!
  7. Excellent!!! Looks like I'm going to be doing a little shopping at StewMac.
  8. Sorry to hear that, but I think teachers (especially in todays environment) are at such a disadvantage because teachers are now baby sitters, and have to deal with disconnected parents that spend most of their time with their faces planted in their iPhones, when they should be reading to their kids and participating in their school assignments.... and the reality is generally kids and teenagers are shitheads... In my generation while in school I've experienced many disruptive kids. My mom especially, taught us that our function while at school was not to critique the teachers, but to contextualize what the books would show us, and if we needed clarity you raise your hand to get the needed assistance.
  9. However I did really dig Brian Johnson vocal vibes on this jam.....
  10. thanks for the info. Do you think I might be going over-board with a belt sander if it needs extra shaping? I also have diamond blade nut slotting tools if I have to go deeper with the nut slots. I have always thought bone nuts were the more denser material, but compared to this #6 material bone is like butter.
  11. Never-mind..... I'm just going to put this thing aside. There's a guy on eBay that already sells these kind of nuts pre-slotted and shaped for the most part.... I'm going to order a belt sander if I have to do anything more to it.
  12. I need some help. What in gods name tool am I'm going to need to shape a #6 material nut????? The material seems to resist sand paper and files. I'm also worried about my groove cutter tools as well. Thanks in advanced.
  13. My mom was so upset I didn't go to college directly out high school, and I probably would have done well, but my focus was becoming a rock star, and I didn't see how an Engineering Degree (at that time) would contribute to my initial goal..... Although it did work out great for Tom Scholz.
  14. Honestly it's both the far-left and far-right that isn't doing this country any favors.
  15. Never knew he closed shop and was accused of making distasteful comments. Gotta be careful. Seems like people are always looking for something to protest about..... It's been that way in the USA as long as I can remember. I think my generation was able to bleed off some of that energy by going to concerts. Rock N Roll / Metal concerts were a great way to rebel against the Man without having to burn things down. Funny I clearly remember all those insane Holly Rollers and Senate dickheads calling all Heavy Metalers Devil Worshippers. lol... We thought they were just lame and bored individuals.
