  1. Jesse, You should contact 3M and speak to one of their reps. to get good advice. Failing that, a reputable, local Luthier might be a good information source. RBSinTo
  2. Honestly, when the best designs Gibson can come up with look like they were made by putting hardware on off-cuts from the scrap pile, why bother? It amazes me that a company that makes electric guitars as beautiful as the ES series, can also produce tasteless dreck like the guitars in this video. RBSinTo
  3. It is indeed a pagen rune that roughly translated reads: "Help. I'm being held prisoner in a guitar factory." RBSinTo
  4. FYP., Well of course it will. And cover the page you are reading completely. The physical and chemical properties of cats are actually very interesting. First, it has been determined that cats comprise a rare category of liquid. When one is placed beside a post-it note, it will very easily confine itself to sitting on the few square inches of paper. However, if you are sitting at a table reading a newspaper, the cat will immediately settle itself down, first on whatever article is being read, and then spread to completely cover the entire double truck spread. Additionally, cats are able at will to change their mass. When one is being picked up to be petted, it will assign itself a very small mass value, so it is easy to lift. However, when one is spread out on the aforementioned newspaper, and does not wish to be moved, it will instantly increase its mass, rendering it almost impossible to pick up. Science has, as yet no explanation for these amazing properties. RBSinTo
  5. We have three cats, and none have even the slightest interest in any of my guitars. However, the cases are another story. Any time I open one and remove the guitar, the case is instantly filled with kitties that immediately fall asleep. This leads me to a couple of conclusions: 1. Nature abhors a vacuum, 2. My musicianship is indeed so bad that it can even put cats to sleep, 3. Whenever necessary, sufficient cats will appear to fill the available space. RBSinTo
  6. Jason, I'm a little unclear on the concept. Wouldn't the time to authenticate a purchase be before making it? And if it turns out that the instrument is indeed counterfeit, can you return it for a complete refund? RBSinTo
  7. DanvillRob, Nothing new here. If you peruse any expensive guitar listings on ebay, Reverb, or wherever, you'll see this is the norm. Everything is sold a la carte. Nickel-diming without shame if there is extra money to be extracted from the buyer is the new philosophy of many sellers. RBSinTo
  8. What was that slogan they used to put on their headstocks? " Only a Gibson is ugly enough" Feh. RBSinTo
  9. I've used a friend's pick punch to stamp picks from the black plastic bottoms of take-out food containers. The material is thin enough that I get the flexible picks (similar to grey Dunlop .60mm ones)I prefer. The plastic tops are also good, but are clear, transparent plastic, so unless they are coloured in some way (nail polish/coloured tape) they are very easy to lose. RBSinTo
  10. It's a moot point, not mute point. RBSinTo
  11. James Caan's death reminded me of a 1993 film he starred in called "The Program". It is the story of a season in the life of a fictional American college football team trying to secure a bowl game, an Heisman Trophy, and professional contracts for some of its players. Caan portrayed the team's head coach. RBSinTo
  12. Chief, Adding the word "special" on the label changes one specification for the guitar, so that must be it. He's a lucky guy. RBSinTo
  13. Ian, Likely nothing more than meaning that you were given the special privilege of paying more than those persons who bought the regular 1995 SJ200. RBSinTo
  14. Dave, What was that famous expression that P.T. Barnum was supposed to have coined? RBSinTo
  15. Chief, Would it be ok if I just leave the guitar under the mat? RBSinTo
  16. Chief, The case has the silouette of a Dung Beetle, complete with ball of dung on it , and the guitar's finish, as you requested has been changed by careful application of three coats of Krylon gloss blue spray paint and sprinkled with genuine imitation silver glitter as it dried. And the price quoted was in USD., taxes and shipping extra, of course. It's a steal!!!! RBSinTo
  17. The steal you refer to is by Gibson, not the purchasers. This "limited edition" business that promises the value of the scarce units will increase is the same silliness pushed by outfits like The Franklin Mint for the various chazerai that they push. I just finished building a classical guitar from a kit. It's the Solo Music Gear RBSinTo Special Edition. Only one in existence. I'm asking $1,200,000.00 for it. At that price it's a steal. RBSinTo
  18. zombywoof, With the $7,500.00, one could grab a plane ticket from Bozeman to Nazareth, buy a really good looking and wonderfully sounding guitar, and still have change left over. Send me the money, and I'll show you how its done. RBSinTo
  19. This just another example of Gibson's business model which includes a clause that states "there must be an inverse relationship between the outrageous prices we'll charge, and the looks of our products". The large slab of pickguard material that looks like it was salvaged from some cheap kitchen table is especially appealing. What an ugly guitar. RBSinTo
  20. Rob, Another song covered by Bobby Darin that has chord per beat choruses is "Artificial Flowers", written by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick for the musical "Tenderloin". Darin was multi-talented, had a wonderful voice, and died far too young. As for hearing my version, I have neither the gear nor the talent to record and then assail the ears of others with my singing and playing. Except for playing with our Grand-daughters in their Music School recitals, the world will never know the musical stylings of RBSinTo . RBSinTo
  21. I knew. I've been playing this song for a couple of years, and it is essentially a chord per beat. Excellent warm-up song for the left hand. RBSinTo
  22. A question that just ocurred to me: Is it a good idea to humidify guitars being stored in gig bags as is done with guitars stored in hard cases? Please and thsnks. RBSinTo
  23. I've had two Snark tuners. They are reasonably priced and suit my pedestrian tuning requirements very well. The first succumbed to fatigue of the neck ball joint which I repaired with glue and used right up to when our Daughter's dog managed to get it on the floor and chewed it to pieces. No tuner anyone makes can stand up to a determined dog. The second one has been fine except for the clamp pads which kept falling off until I re-glued them. For me, the top-of-the line flux-capacitor-powered tuners with the blow-back clip feed and the hyper-drive are overkill, while the Snarks are perfect. RBSinTo
  24. Murph, You can always use some epoxy or cyano-acrylate on the prongs. On your balls, not so much. RBSinTo
  25. Is Gibson's legendary tastelessness an inside company joke, or do they have a department whose sole function is to churn out the schlockiest guitars possible? Makes my eyes water just to look at this one. RBSinTo
