  1. I used humidipacks until one leaked inside my guitar some years ago. The guitar was in its case so I didn't notice right away. I'll never use them again. Hopefully mine was a rare experience.
  2. After a quick look, Reverb doesn't have that much, but the most popular auction site is loaded with Grover compatible buttons. Like Sgt. Pepper said, take your measurements and compare them to the measurements in the listings to find what you want.
  3. That is exactly what I think. Compared side by side with my J-185 custom quilt, that is considerably more expensive, they are equal in fit and finish. And although they sound different with body shape and tonewoods, they both give me an ear to ear grin when I play them.
  4. This is interesting. I've been wanting to change the mini Grover buttons on my J-15. So if any Grover buttons would work, auction sites or even Reverb should have some as well. I think I'll start searching there first.
  5. That's good stuff. I love my J-15. Mine's a 2016 and has opened up wonderfully.
  6. I'm still working my way out of bedroom hack.
  7. A J-29 is roughly half the price of a Songwriter. Does that make the J-29 a great deal, or is it that much lower quality in sound and playability than the Songwriter? My bet is that it's a great deal.
  8. No deep pockets here, but they're sure nice to look at and daydream.
  9. Absolutely. Now's the time to enjoy what I've already spent money on, which is not very hard to do. GAS is a funny thing where I can whip myself into a mindset of "I need to have..." when in reality that's telling me I'm not appreciating what I can pick up and play right now.
  10. Very true - for every forum, everywhere.
  11. The new Gibson shortage has also made the used Gibson market prices climb to the level of CRAZY.
  12. I have never played a J-29, but have always been curious about them. They seemed like they would be a great guitar, but never really took off and were discontinued in short time. On the AGF a very reputable member broke down the specs of the J-29 and concluded that it had the exact same bracing and body style/size as the venerable Advanced Jumbo, with the only difference being the J-29 is a short scale and the AJ is not. I would love to play one.
  13. I find this to be very true. I love my Gibsons, and look forward to buying a Martin rosewood Dread, but I have never played a Taylor that I wanted to take home.
  14. Completely agree. I don't have a J-200, but I do have a J-185 custom quilt with a natural top. I think it's the most beautiful thing ever made with wood.
  15. +1 on a Reverb feed. Also Sweetwater is, I feel, the best online site to buy an acoustic guitar. They will occasionally have Demos that they sell for a mild discount. The demos are typically new guitars that have been played in their store's showroom.
  16. That guitar is a beauty! Good for you to have found it.
  17. Ah, thank you! I think I have this on one of my guitars where ,when I finger pluck the F note on the D string, it's just a dull thud. Drives me crazy.
  18. Very interesting idea. I would love to see this thread grow with some good information. Unfortunately I don't have any vintage guitars to share to this discussion.
  19. I purchased my J-185 used and the previous owner removed the UST and put in a K&K ultra pure mini. I have no comparison of how it sounded with the UST, but with the current set up, the unplugged sound is fantastic.
  20. Stevegarside, how's the tone of your J185 going? Has it improved in the last 9 months?
  21. A songwriter deluxe standard will, at some point, be my next acquisition. Apparently I will be most likely buying it used.
