  1. Definitely glue it back on. That chip looks like it will stand out, and will probably be the first thing people notice when they see your guitar up close. It will distract them from noticing the inherent beauty of the guitar.
  2. I humidify all of my guitars by the rooms that they are in. Hygrometers and humidifiers are dirt cheap compared to the investments they are protecting. I heat with wood all winter and keep all of the rooms with an acoustic between 45-55% humidity.
  3. Agreed. I think the weight of a guitar should be considered for comfort purposes only.
  4. My J-15 is significantly lighter than my J-185. They both sound amazing, but the J-15 is much louder. Don't know if the weight has anything to do with that.
  5. I looked into those, but I found they get mixed reviews.
  6. Zombywoof, you're probably right. But the sound and feel of my J-15 still knocks my socks off. And that originally was sold as Gibson's "budget" model. I agree with sgt. Pepper about the 15 series being a steal with martin, and I think a used J-15 is the same case for Gibson.
  7. That bridge is enormous. My guess is that has more of an affect on the sound than the stash/sound port.
  8. Too early? In 19 days it will be too late. The 12 string Hummingbird sounds great.
  9. I'm not sure what material you are looking for, but Bob colosi makes high quality bridge pins and could whip one up for you. He is at: guitarsaddles.com
  10. Watched the videos and it definitely sounds louder with both holes open.
  11. That's a beauty. Congratulations on your find! I would ask you what was it about the tone that spoke to you, but I know words can fall short of describing it. I know I haven't found my perfect guitar yet.
  12. My next set of strings are going to be Sunbeams. Maybe I've been missing out on something, maybe not. Either way I'm going to find out.
  13. That's hand signed by Ren Ferguson. I think $2300 is very reasonable if it is in great condition. New Songwriters are going for close to $3,200 here in the US. A good tech should easily identify the pick up make and model, and also alert you to anything worth disclosing in good faith to potential buyers.
  14. That git's a beauty for sure. Is the sound similar to how you remember it ?
  15. I would definitely give Gibson a call and see if it is under their warranty. It Certainly can't hurt. Here is another thread with a similar issue: http://gretschpages.com/forum/modern-gretsch-guitars/cracked-mother-of-pearl-inlay-worth-fixing/69523/page1/
  16. I have no first hand experience with cracked mother of pearl (knock on wood). Maybe a luthier can chime in. Do you have an experienced luthier or guitar tech near you?
  17. Agreed, Jay-45. I went to a mom and pop Gibson acoustic dealer up north earlier this year. They had a nice selection of Gibsons, but when I fingerpicked them I could tell they were all strung with extra lights. They all sounded thin and waaaaaay below their potential. If I hadn't already owned awesome Gibson acoustics, I would have thought that Gibson sucked. I asked the owner why he had them all strung with extra lights, and he said they all came that way. Poor choice by Gibson, and a great way to turn people off to an exceptional brand of guitar.

    Radius

No clue, but radius gauge kits are pretty cheap online: https://www.amazon.com/Dreamtop-Understring-Radius-Luthier-Guitar/dp/B01LZBHHC2/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=fretboard+radius+gauge&qid=1638281852&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFCUEQzUlMxOENESFAmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA3OTgwMzlCVkdKUk9aVUhNVlUmZW5jcnlwdGVkQWRJZD1BMDg1ODY3NjM4SUZQT1hUUjZZSkcmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl
  19. Some other guitar companies in the past have tried the top sound port, but it never really took off. I would love to try one of these new Gibsons to experience the sound difference, but that would be a 4 hour drive for me. Gasman, any way to capture the sound difference with video/audio?
  20. Found this from Science Daily: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/03/140324090250.htm "A material similar to ceramic, although extremely tough, is found in nature.. Mother-of-pearl, which covers the shells of abalone and some bivalves, is 95% composed of calcium carbonate (aragonite), an intrinsically fragile material that is nonetheless very tough. Mother-of-pearl can be seen as a stack of small bricks, welded together with mortar composed of proteins. Its toughness is due to its complex, hierarchical structure where cracks must follow a tortuous path to propagate. It is this structure that inspired the researchers......." Since all wood expands and contracts with different humidity, maybe long term the subtle movements of the fretboard may worsen the crack over time. But that's just a guess. P.S. I've always wanted a Songwriter.
  21. I think it depends how your wide your nuts slots were made. I always slot mine .002-.003" wider than the 12-54s I use, so mediums would fit if I wanted to change. If your nut was slotted to fit only lights, you might need to widen them. You could put mediums in and use a magnifying glass to see if the strings are sitting nicely at the bottom of the slots before you pin them into the bridge. Also, if they don't fit right, you'll probably noticing them binding up when you tune them. +1 on the probable neck relief adjustment.
  22. Someone help this man post some pictures! (I don't know how either) I would love to see the shade of that top.
  23. That is fantastic. It's giving me some ideas........
