  1. As usual I'm plotting my next move and there's a Firebird I've been looking at for quite some time. Earlier today I ready an article about "Firebird Neck" and how the weight of the banjo tuners could cause the necks to snap easily, even if they're in the case. I took a much closer look at this guitar and not only is it beat up but look at that neck, I don't think that's a relfection. Shame as that's exactly the color my old one was so that's what drew me to it.
  2. Teen years? Coitanly it does. Back then it was Leon Russell, Eric Clapton, Beatles, Stones, Johnny Winter, T. Rex, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, all sorts of stuff that I still listen to. I'm with you on the Dead and had a couple of Deadhead girlfriends. They just noodle away and it doesn't go anywhere that I could see but each to their own.
  3. MissouriPicker, Good for you! When that one little Dumeril got loose I was afraid a neighbor would kill it if they found it. My snake news is that big female boa graduated to rabbits today. I'm trying to give her plenty of reserves for breeding season. She missed last year but the previous year (her first) she had something crazy like 32 babies. I kept two just for the heck of it, they're little mice eating machines. Once they start eating rabbits they grow like crazy. Luckily, she has a great disposition: never bit, never hissed, just bombs around and hangs out. The wife likes my tortoises, is afraid of the snakes once they get above 3 feet and is terrified of monitor lizards. She's not much of a cage cleaning assistant. Rode into work today to drop off/pick up some more work and it is just so strange to see our beautiful (HA!) state capitol so empty of people. I would say 95% of the govt workers are working from home. It felt great to be out riding a motorcycle, I need to do that more often. On a guitar related note (little pun, there), a Geteria wireless system showed up. Thank you, guys, for making me come out of the Stone Age, it's pretty cool. So far, so good. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZJYDN4D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Compared to the Roland cord that was recommended here there IS a loss in fidelity on both ends of the spectrum. However, for putzing around far away from an amp it'll be just fine. Also have a snipe bid scheduled for a guitar which I need like a hole in the head but who knows.
  4. I agree, I'm really happy for her. With Molly Dog dying and then she's got some sort of surgery coming up she needed a real boost. The dealership called her up and said you've got 60,000 miles on your 2016 Crosstrek and you can trade it in on a 2021, no payment due until end of October. Her payments went down and so did her insurance so good deal. Her comment was you got your amplifiers, I'm going to go get my car! I told her I'll show her all the guitars once I snag a Firebird VII. Quite a few she's never seen. No sense in asking for trouble although I do tell her she can sell them all after I croak. She seems to like that idea. That's something that makes me go Hmmmm....
  5. Wife gets new 2021 Subaru Crosstrek, I got a guitar strap (not pictured). I think she had the better day but there's always tomorrow!
  6. Calling rct, rct to the Gibson Forum...
  7. Thanks to our stellar handling of the pandemic (I'd give it an A+), I've got some time on my hands so have stocked up on some new reading material: Michael Cohen's book just showed up and Bob Woodward's is hopefully not far behind. Whoever thought there would be so many interesting things to hit my library? Every day a new box, what could be in it? Hmmm...
  8. It kept coming back and I finally found the problem: me. Every so often I'd lay the guitar on a leather couch and it would pick up some Lexol Leather Conditioner residue. Just enough to make a weird, sticky spot which would get dragged around by my thumb. Note to self: don't lay guitar on leather couch.
  9. Winter must be coming real early this year as breeding season shouldn't start until after Thanksgiving. Here they're already getting cozy in mid September. One thing about reptiles, they know exactly what the weather is doing no matter where they are or how they're kept.
  10. Nope. I'm familiar with the natural colored ones, though. If those are any indication those should be pretty good.
  11. Went out this morning to put the tortoises outside and stumbled upon these two lovebirds. Hmmm...
  12. The replacement showed up today and I only used it for a few minutes, I worked 7AM - 7 PM. Got off work, registered it and brought it upstairs. From the few minutes I played around with it I REALLY like it. It doesn't have a ton of controls to screw around with and it only took a few seconds to get the sound I wanted out of it. It seems to be voiced more like the original Marshalls from when I was a kid. I guess that's where the Origin comes from. I think I'll get its bigger brother as well if that tells you anything. That DSL 40CR is an open box unit so I'm sure there's a lot of break in to do with the speaker and tubes so I'm having fun with that one, too. It's awfully nice to have some decent amps. Thanks to the fellows here for giving me the shove off the fence!
  13. You could probably get a good seat. If Security starts nosing around just pretend you're a cardboard cut out. The only thing you can do is laugh about what a disaster everything is. We've turned into the Remedial Reading Class of the planet. Back to trying to wear the frets out on this Explorer. I don't know why I like this goofy looking thing as much as I do but I sure play it enough.
  14. Piped crowd noise at the NFL games on today along with cardboard cutouts for fans. This is going to be a disaster. If the Giants win the Super Bowl because the opposition is hospitalized does it still count?
  15. Triumph cancels their national rally, H-D corporate bows out of Sturgis, ageing Harley riders flock to Sturgis, governor of SD says everything's just fine. Hmmm...
  16. They can keep the toaster, Lol. I'd settle for a Gibson! Good thing Henry J. isn't still in charge, that toaster would come in a Tasteful Burst finish for your lifestyle breakfast. Now THAT would make for one iconic English Muffin!
  17. That is reserved for F-holes. C'mon, you know that.
  18. I guess it would depend on who is trying to touch my balls on the court.
  19. Kind of hard to social distance from yourself. Maybe eating garlic would help.
  20. What a great shot. Congratulations! I guess I probably pay off my mortgage because it'll probably take a while to get here?
  21. I saw a Jaguar ad the other day and they used the word "iconic". There's no escape from the marketing buzzword of the 20s...
  22. Did somebody say ICONIC? Now that you mention it...
  23. Think big: Birthday Quarter. Sgt. Pepper gets 4Q20 so beat the rush, do your gift shopping now.
  24. Don't buy the prelubed masks, you'll be sorry. Trust me on this one.
  25. My first Gibson was an SG Standard purchased with lawn cutting money a gazillion years ago. I don't know how many hours I spent playing that one. You guys would have fallen down laughing if you could have seen my expression the first time I plugged it into a Marshall stack. I know the guy I bought the amp from burst out laughing and said, "Have you ever heard one of these before?" Uh, no...
