  1. Hey Paul. You've come to the right place, but your post is very funny as you've provided no info or photo. Hilarious! Thanks!
  2. Yep. UR the best, bro. Another example of what's happened in the era of talent over-saturation, and the odd dilemma of the best in their field not being able to make a solid living at their craft. Enjoy your private island. I don't know how you slipped through the crack of fame. Very JHammond touch you have, when he isn't being full on frantic. I got to see him play up close when he was hanging around Woodstock in the late 70's. It was 2 bucks to get in and sit 8 feet away. So many good players out there, and much respect to you being in the mix. Thanks for all the clips. If I was your partner I wouldn't clip my nails either, but I'd want you to teach me lap slide.
  3. Oh yeah...I forgot, just to make ol' Nick wince, I'd pull that nasty guard and strip the top.
  4. It's all about the price, if it sounds good and is structurally OK. A true diamond in the rough, and something I'd be happy to own. All my diamonds are a bit rough. Then I'd slap on the vintage Klusons and be happy.
  5. The permanent underclass is global, as we know, and most street marketplaces in 3rd world countries are pretty much 'dollar' stores, except filthier. Yep...what Murph said.
  6. That am sneaky! Good call, JWG. It might be one of those customer support issues Reverb has to back peddle on if enough members complain. Full disclosure all around is the consumer's best tool. Maybe they figure Ebay gets away with it, and direct bargaining is always an option between seller and buyer.
  7. B.S. in Jazz. That's funny. Good one!
  8. When I think of what I could do with 5K in the vintage market... I like that arrangement of 'Maybe I'm Amazed' enough to put it on my list of things to learn. I'll be back with my rendition in a couple years. I played a weathered early 70's Dove belonging to a client last week. Stellar booming woody darkness and a gorgeous deep amber'd top, much preferred to my ear than the AJ in the clip. I still hear the 'new' in new guitars and seem to have some aversion. Maybe I can't hear the warmth.
  9. What...a girl who can play McCartney?
  10. I can remember only a few days where it got so swampy I noticed a radical drop off in resonance, but they were conditions that sneaked in before I fired up my battery of air conditioners. It's hard to regain the dryness once a heavy duty humid front takes hold. Sounds like you can swim in that air BK, but I just kick in the extra 20 bucks a month for electric all summer and fight off the thick air. I'm surprised you don't keep one room cool and dry as a refuge, if not just for human comfort, given the predictable weather. How'd you crick your neck, staring at the 'Banner' Gibson thread on the UMGF?
  11. I don't think I could handle the flashback.
  12. Shiny and new still doesn't do anything for me, unless it's cars. I'm confident the tone of your old pawn shop guitars has that extra vintage depth not heard in fresh builds. Besides, for that kind of cash I can finally get my hands on an Ad topped Martin 12 fret 000.
  13. These lightweight small bods are a bit delicate, so hopefully you have a reliable luthier equipped music shop in your neighborhood to look it over. He/she could drop a mirror inside to make sure the braces are snug, and also that the ball ends of your strings are resting against the bridge plate and not working their way through worn holes. I now use the mirror with each string change to check the seating. https://www.ebay.com/itm/153792186919?hash=item23ceba8a27 Have a ball with that old player.
  14. Can somebody veer this over to guitar talk? I'm trying to cook supper.
  15. While we wait, over the weekend I was changing the 6 month old Dunlop 80/20s on my L00, which were oddly still sounding good. The new set sounded like someone stuffed a towel in the guitar, which freaked me a little. Was it a dead set thing? I'll find out when I try them on another guitar this weekend. The big surprise was when I threw on a set of new/used D'Addario nickel bronze for temporary use, which I couldn't take off another guitar (Guild 000) fast enough after I heard the near metallic tone, they brought me back to the Black Diamond tone I remember from so long ago. I love them. It's like an NGD! The ear wants what the ear wants.

    L Series?

So many choices and opinions. Get ready. I use Dunlop 80/20's. 12s would drive that top nicely. They're sturdily built small bods. I use 13's on my old Ls, but I tune down a whole step.
  17. Thanks! This is Florida by ND standards. I'll never forget catching a ride with a lady trucker from a Fargo rest stop in an August snow squall on my way to Missoula to hook up with a friend. Just another dumb idea I played out after college, sometime in '75. Vito, my big old English Choc Lab, is the Banner SJ of dogs.
  18. Cleared snow, brought in firewood, and stared longingly at an old Martin on Reverb. I ended up changing out strings to occupy hands that were hell bent on making an offer or just buying it outright. Cooler heads prevailed. I go through this every so often.

    Price?

I would think that with any 'big ticket' item, guitar, car, sofa you'll get the MSRP in a cold call inquiry. If you're standing at the counter with cash in hand, and the seller thinks you might walk away if they don't cut a deal , you stand a chance. Also, you may be talking to an employee with no power to make price changes. I see large store dealers like Sweetwater sometimes list a price crossed out in red as if there was a deal afoot. With a higher end new instrument I guess I'd just be all in, so to speak, and expect great service and a shiny perfect guitar out of the box.

    L Series?

Hah! Thanks! I sold my LG2s for a particular reason, I thought the bass end was a little flat, so I jumped up to a J50. I won't be revisiting that model.
  21. Not me, not yet, but that may change if they are seeing that I responded. My kids told me to never click an unknown link. I listened.

    L Series?

All my players hang on the wall. This guitar, if playable, is one of the more desirable small bods out there, so I'd look at it with that in mind. Neck adjustment, a la truss rod tweak, isn't the same as a neck reset, which is done when minor action adjustments can no longer help the playability. If it was summer I'd drive over to take a look at it as I'm just an hour away, but a qualified luthier will quickly assess and give you a cost estimate. I haven't seen anything in your pics or description that would scare me off. How serious are you about owning this? It looks like it's part of a yard sale lot in earlier shots.

    L Series?

Good advice from you, Jim. The comparable price and condition ranges are conveniently available on the two major guitar dealer sites. I got a little more info from HBM, and it is an LG2, but with the distant photos and hardly any details I suspect my fellow vintage nerds know that to lend an opinion without more details is a wild swing, thus the lack of reaction...so far. Maybe more info will come.
