  1. Sal, Nice !!! It sounds softer than a regular J 45. I love the contained sound . How’s the custom D 18 doing? JC
  2. Dan, I believe that change came about in late 1959 or 1960. Great seeing you around my friend. JC
  3. Folks, One for the maple lovers : I love the color ,the tone ...everything about it. And I love that Todd says maple is his favorite wood !!! It’s billed as a 1966 but I noticed the screws in guard and the 3 piece neck ... I believe it looks more in line with the 1968 spec. I pulled out my SJ 200 after listening to this. This guitar just a fantastic Gibson.Along with the 1965 (the dream guitar) they are two of my favorite large body Gibsons. JC
  4. The video above didn’t stick but it’s this one : Her main guitar is a SJ 200 w/ Adi top : She’s really great. JC
  5. I voted wide . I always go “against the grain” 😂😂😂😂 JC
  6. Pride or Feelings have nothing to do with it. I want to talk guitars .Nothing more. Stuff might get dragged in but I just don’t want to have to sift through it to find actual material related to guitars. You’d be surprised how quick one page can turn into a saga of 10 or more pages of crap. It’s happened on this forum before. And I just don’t want it to happen again. I’ve been on other forums for many years and only one of those has remained very respectful as time has passed ... It’s not this one. Once more to you and everyone here All The Best !!!! JC
  7. I want to talk about guitars. This is a forum for talking about guitars ... If that can’t be done without people dragging in other things then I have 0 interest.I also have 0 interest in raining on other people’s parade. I can tell you are pretty new here. Everyone who knows me knows I’m not a Gibson fan boy. And that while I don’t like everything Gibson does I still respect other people’s conversations about it. As I’ve grown older ... I’ve realized that whatever time is spent on a guitar forum isn’t time you want to spend arguing about random things. All the best ! JC
  8. I think I’m just going to stay away from this forum at this point. You try to generate healthy discussions about Gibson Acoustic guitars and it ends up turning into something else. The fact of the matter is we don’t all have to be fans of a signature artist that works with Gibson. Even if you hate Gallagher the guy plays a Gibson and he is saying in the interview that he wrote a bunch of his songs on a Gibson. If this signature guitar comes out I hope they sell out so Gibson can continue to exist. JC
  9. The Saito J 45 has a thermally aged Sitka top ... I don’t think Gibson did a cooked top 60’s J 45 before this one ... So it will be different from any previous black J 45. Even last year’s model. I don’t think they offered the guard with screws in it either. Also this one has a belly down bridge while the other year models are belly up. As far as I could understand from being at the show the Original Series has some vintage touches but not all .So that would explain why the L 00 doesn’t have the fire stripe guard. JC
  10. If it’s a replica of his guitar I think the regular engraved guard is going to have to be the way to go. Even the “new” blonde one has wear: JC
  11. Folks, If this happens I take it this will the first replica of a Bozeman era guitar instead of Kalamazoo that’s been issued by Gibson??? Read it here: https://www.google.com.sv/amp/s/guitar.com/news/music-news/noel-gallagher-gibson-signature-acoustic/%3famp JC
  12. Folks, Although this guitar is only available in Japan I think the related videos are worth watching for the fans of Bozeman guitars. This first one is from Gibson TV w/ English subtitles: This one is in Japanese only but shows Saito at Gibson Nashville and there’s moments where he plays the J 45 . It seems Gibson has perfected the “torrification process” I played a baked J 200 at a Namm show a few years ago but wasn’t “wowed”. All the baked stuff I played at Namm 2020 plus the quality of sound coming from Saito’s guitar in the clips above has turned that around for me. Too bad they didn’t make it available for North America . It looks gorgeous. JC
  13. In this clip he plays a CJ -165 Rosewood for Guitar World : He’s also been playing a Gibson J 185 12 string for years now: I do know he has been playing a J 45 at shows with GnR since the first few dates of the Not In This Lifetime tour. JC
  14. C, You are correct about the guilds (i believe he had a deal with them at that time) [but guild has changed hands many timed] I don’t know when he started using J 45’s exactly but here he is playing one in 2014 : He’s been playing Gibson Acoustics for a while now, Here he plays paradise city on a CJ -165 EC maple in 2008: JC
  15. S, After playing them at Namm ... I’m pretty sure you are going to love the sound. would you mind sharing which 3 models you chose? JC
  16. Folks, Check it out: absolutely stunning guitar. JC
  17. Folks, Check this amazing L-Century of Progress out : Absolutely wonderful maple tone. JC
  18. @Nick, The Rosewood on both the AJ and Southern Jumbo was gorgeous looking to my eyes.I’m pretty sure it’s select Indian. JC
  19. If you place an order with a dealer you should be able to order it without any electronics. JC
  20. Nick, Good Question. the finishes looked just fine to me. Maybe some Haze but honestly the sound and the feel of these guitars is just something else. Most of the old guitars probably have hazed finishes themselves at this point .If I’m honest I wanted one of each but I if I could only pick one it would have been the Rosewood Southern Jumbo JC
  21. Here’s one final video: the 1934 Jumbo is demoed in it. Enjoy. the sound clips and Don explaining everything is much better than I can do. JC
  22. Folks, Check it out: Some people here trash slash because they think he is just a Les Paul guy but I’ve played this guitar and it’s excellent. The huge 58/59 style neck gives it a massive shimmer/vibration. It’s not like any J 45 I have played before. The video in my opinion captures the tone very accurately. It’s an amazing guitar even if you hate Slash .... a few strums on this thing and you can’t deny that this is a wonderful J 45. It has so much power that you could almost mistake it for a Rosewood backed jumbo. As I said in the other post Gibson Acoustic is on fire right now. JC
  23. As a small update ... this video really captures the powerful sound of the new Gibson Historics: I unknowingly was featured in the video. That’s me in the red jacket playing the guitars upside down. I hated rosewood guitars for a long time. The best rosewood guitars I have ever played were the 36 AJ and The 42 Rosewood Southern jumbo they sound better than any rosewood Martin (to my ears at least) I have ever played.
