  1. Folks, The New Gibson Acoustic Collection sounds absolutely stellar.Every last one of the guitars I played was wonderful sounding. Some of my favorites were the 1939 J 55 and the 1942 Rosewood Southern Jumbo,The small LG 2 1942. 1942 J 45. 1936 AJ , 52 J 185 and 1957 J 200 Bozeman is on fire. The USA made Epiphone Texan is a very fine guitar. The Slash J 45 sounds wonderful but the neck is very unique. I’ll update this post when I have a minute to write more. JC
  2. I don’t think this this is going to be a grandfather vintage spec 45.I think this is going to be a “play all over the fretboard” instead of just a “cowboy strummer” I’ll be at NAMM .Will report back with thoughts on the model. JC
  3. Folks, Slash Signature J 45’s have been announced Taken from Guitar World: The J-45s feature a custom Slash-approved C-neck profile and a "fatter and more modern" 16" fretboard radius (the 2019 Standards have a 12" fretboard radius). There's no wood spec revealed by Gibson just yet but it looks very much like the regular run of J-45s with a solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany on the back and sides. As with the Les Pauls, the J-45s have signature or blank truss rod covers, Slash "Scully" sketch on the back of the headstock – and, yes, they come with the picks, too. 45s available in November Burst and Vermillion Burst. JC
  4. Folks, Check this video out: I think it will help anyone looking for their first Gibson . JC
  5. Folks. Here the 65 Dove owner talks about some of the repairs that the guitar will need. Enjoy JC
  6. Folks, Check out this amazing sounding 1965 Dove: As much as I respect the prewar Martin dreads ... This Dove is a maple lovers dream as far as dreads go. I had a big grin on my face the whole time this guy was playing. JC
  7. Folks, Check out this footage of B.B with a Jumbo: JC
  8. I agree with Jinder 100 %. Maple and Mahogany are the way to go if you sing. JC
  9. Folks, I hope you enjoy this sessions as much as I have: I think the Gibson is a J 15 Walnutburst JC
  10. Being left handed . I was looking to upgrade my old Yamaha which had been my main guitar for a few years. At that time quality lefties were hard to find. I found a one off Sj 200 True Vintage lefty at Fuller’s Vintage Guitar in Houston. It was purchased without ever being played or inspected by me. Needless to say it was amazing ! JC
  11. That J 180 is not her guitar actually. It was gifted to her by Madonna after T.S acted as Madonna’s guitarrist for a performance of her hit song Ghost Town at some award show. It seems after she was gifted that J 180 you saw her with less and less Taylor Guitars. Madonna isn’t really known as a guitarrist but as an artist and as a writer of hit pop songs she is someone who is in a class of her own.I’m sure that J 180 holds a special meaning for that reason. It was one of several J 180’s M has. JC
  12. Wishing you nothing but the best while you rebuild your home and hopefully at some point your guitar collection. Thank You for sharing your story. Nice 200 Quilt !!! Good to know your dog is still with you. JC
  13. Nick , Are you sure it was a bird? it may have been this 1963 country western (photo attached) I do know she played it on the “Car Wheels” tour after that she’s mostly played 45’s live.I read that same C & W was played by Duane Allman for a session or show in Gatlinburg, TN in early 1971. JC
  14. Folks, Check it out: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fZNwQjNe-AQ The bird is a 68. Not sure about the Jumbo. They do an amazing job on this Lucinda Williams tune. I hope everyone is well. JC
  15. i have a lefty on order through Fullers Guitar. isnt this body a bit too large to have the Wide 30s style X bracing ??? Honestly it sounds amazing when she plays it in the video. thanks for sharing JC
  16. Em7, That’s not Clayton but he may have lent the guitar to that guy for a recording session. Clayton appears in blue with Keef here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/4524295.amp/ he was or is in a band called Dirty Strangers. I’m saying it’s a 64 because Clayton has said it is.Either Keef told him he bought it in 64 or he has had the serial # checked out. Some people seem to think Brian,Jagger and Richards shared one blonde bird and that it was passed around for years between them 3. I think it’s pretty clear this is not true after seeing these recent pics of Keith’s old blondie. The guard is still intact and has no screws ... Whereas Jagger’s had the screws back in Vienna 1973 and still does today. The only mod I can see on Jagger’s is it used to have the Belly up/Insert saddle bridge and it now has a belly down/fixed saddle one. I’ve cut the photo of Jagger’s so the screws in the guard can be seen more than anything else. JC
  17. Folks, Many of us assumed it was stolen and never recovered. It appears that was never the case. From what I’ve been able to piece together Keith always has that guitar until the year 2000 when he gave it to a guy he worked with named Alan Clayton. Also it appears to be a 64 and not a 67/68 as some people believe JC
  18. Folks, Check it out: True Vintage = Non Torrified Adi Vintage = Torrified Adi For me the True Vintage wins it just sounds more organic. How about you? JC
  19. Joe, Glad you are getting into maple. I’ve never found a Rosewood guitar that I though sounded any good (I guess my ears don’t like harsh tones) ... Maple has never let me down ! Some people consider maple a dead sounding wood but I believe that what they are actually reffering to is it’s quick decay as far as notes. That’s what I love so much about maple ... It’s almost like the notes are ghosts , they are there for a second or two and then they disappear. With Rosewood getting harder to source I believe the majority of guitars in the future will be maple and I love that ... It doesn’t get too much respect among rosewood lovers but I am glad you can appreciate the qualiy of a fine maple or two. Play your guitars in good health! btw even Neil Young who has been a staunch Martin man now plays a small body Gibson Century of Progress (maple back and sides) on some songs of his last few tours. I heard it was a gift from his gf /wife Darryl Hannah JC
  20. Sal, Your Country & Western is awesome !!! JC
  21. He talks about it at the 7 min 45 sec mark: JC
  22. The thing is this: Cesar one of the new faces at Gibson said that they were going to STOP putting the years on the back of the headstock as of January NAMM 2019 because they believed that the guitars from one year to the next should be of the same quality . Since your model has a 2018 serial number it has the 2019 still stamped into it. But no it’s not strange at all. The new Gibson management just made a conscious choice to STOP that (admittedly dumb) practice. That’s all. You can explain that to any buyer you may have ... in fact I may be able to find a video of Cesar talking about this exact topic. JC
  23. I think the one that was hiding at Heathrow was his Blonde Bird. JC
