  1. For the guy who only has $999 Gibson is coming out with the G 45 . There were still people in the 1930’s who couldn’t afford Gibsons and those people would buy Stellas .A lot of people who can’t afford a Gibson in the modern era think that by trashing the brand and saying that they are “overpriced” it will make Gibson magically lower the prices. If you want a Gibson start saving up . If you can’t afford a Gibson well there are other companies who make great guitars at more affordable prices. JC
  2. Gibson produced a model called SJ 200 EC. I think they are doing a few for 2019. If not I’m sure he can custom order one. JC
  3. L, Lovely sound. Thanks for sharing ! JC
  4. Ian, Here you go: https://www.gibson.com/Guitar/ACC3YP77/J-15-Antique-Natural-2019 They are different enough to produce them both. The fretboard radius on the J 15 is 12 inches vs 16 inches on the G 45’s. The neck on the J 15 is 2 piece maple whereas on the G 45’s it’s something else (they haven’t put up full specs yet but from the namm videos it’s clear to not be maple) J 15 comes with the normal style lacquer finish vs a satin style feel on the G 45’s . The J 15 comes with a LR Bagg’s Element vs a Fishman Sonitone. The funny thing is people are already hating on the new generation models 😂😂😂😂 They’re saying they look cheap ... No matter what Gibson tries to do it’s always going to be trashed by the people who can’t afford the classics. To me it looks to have features of a student model and if I were 16 and had $1000 to buy an acoustic this summer I’d play one to see if I liked it beforw judging . JC
  5. I think like all good things it had to go at some point. I bet the reason the J 15 is still around is because it’s all north american tonewoods. Don Ruffato has stated multiple times that walnut is the way to go to keep pricing down for the end consumer. Mahogany and Rosewood are already getting harder to find.Maybe Gibson wants to save their mahogany for J 45’s and Hummingbirds. JC
  6. Cat’s Everly looks to be in good shape still. I’m sure your J 180 will due just fine. JC
  7. L, Did you ask for it to be drilled for a strap button? I think most 2018 models came that way. JC
  8. Yowza ... Wow .Wish I could strum that beast! Congrats. She’s gorgeous !! With the Tulips it looks just like the Billie Joe Armstrong sig. I’d like to order one with the pinless bridge .But I think Bozeman only does those for the japanese market. JC
  9. That may have been a small run from the 1990’s. The most common dove finishes have been: cherry back and sides with natural top or cherry sunburst (orange) and the Elvis Presley Dove model was all black. I’ve seen very few Doves in “classic” tabacco sunburst. One can be seen here: JC
  10. The site says fretboard is African Ebony: https://www.guitarcenter.com/Gibson/2019-J-45-Walnut-Custom-Acoustic-Electric-Guitar.gc#productDetail Does it look like Ebony up close? JC
  11. ZW, I meant it from the Gibson Basher’s POV . Many of these guys have probably never owned a Gibson from any era. So if they see a bit of orange peel or a drop of glue inside their guitar they just say it’s poor quality and not “on par” with the old stuff [Even though we know some old gibsons can have a ton of glue on the inside] I see people saying Gibson USA sucks all the time. I played 2 left handed Gibson USA les pauls a few years ago at NAMM and they seemed flawless to me ... 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ Being left handed it’s hard to find good quality instruments ... Gibson has surely delivered that for me ... time and time again! The only reason I will have to stop buying Gibsons in a year or two is because I can’t keep up w/the prices but I have never felt I got less value than what I paid for a Gibson. I’m not a fan boy ... just a guy who feels he has been taken care of by Gibson JC
  12. My experience with Gibson has been very positive and I would never let other people make up my mind for me. Too many people expect “perfection” from something factory made ... I don’t and never have. Even car manufacturers fail at building cars sometimes ... Does that make them a terrible brand? No!! It’s been said on this forum that in the 60’s gibson stamped a #2 on a bunch of guitars which they considered to have minor flaws and were sold at 10% discount. Now I guess that doesn’t exist because you can get a discount direct from a dealer. Either way I think people tend to over romanticize their notion of “vintage quality control” I support the Bozeman product ... Because it does what I need it to do. I’d rather a Gibson than anything else. JC
  13. I definitely love both of these lines . If I could have my pick I’d get a Hummingbird Studio + L 00 sustainable. Glad gibson isn’t just doing another year with the same old guitars. It’s actually good to talk about something “new” at Gibson JC
  14. It sounds like a Bob Dylan tune ! Great stuff @Doug ... keep em coming 🙏🏻 Jc
  15. I think it’s time for Bozeman to find a better material or supplier for the guards... I hear this story all the time and I think that they can find something or someone that does a better job. JC
  16. I played the first run of these guitars called the HP line in 2016 (i think) at NAMM and they sounded every bit as good as the high end gibsons. I played a Martin Jeff Tweedy model which has richlite too and that one felt very stiff for some reason . Enjoy the guitar! JC
  17. L, Thanks for the reminder ! As far as the J 180 even the man himself knows "Only an Everly is good enough " JC
  18. Em7, I meant as in "a few 4 pc tops may have trickled out of the big K in 67" James is an a musical icon of my childhood. I will never be as gifted in picking as he is ... But will always enjoy his sweet voice. JC
  19. Looks entirely possible that 67 was a year for 4 piece tops: If I may say so this J 45 sounded stellar to my ears! JC
  20. Richlite is what Gibson is using as alternative to buying Ebony from Bob Taylor. The "new" HP and AG lines have it JC
  21. SirNed, Did Mr.H retain any of artifacts from his Gibson Days? Perhaps a few pickguards or molds to cast the hummingbird design on the guard? I have always loved the vintage Hummingbirds and Doves but unfortunately I am left handed and to my knowledge neither was ever done in a lefty config. JC
  22. The 200 was created in 1937 (proto) Availability was wider as of 1938. JC
