1. Naaa. Didn’t order one. Like the shape but like plainer LG2s. When things get a little better around here I’ll seek out an LG2 again. Or a CF-100
2. Keystones, inlays, bound fretboard, and pickup controls taped on the bottom of the sound hole and not the top = $800..
3. Keith… this is not political, but please make sure you take care of your voice.
4. A corner of the top got kicked in during the gig from hell last weekend... Guitar bust. Friend's replacement guitar (a friend drove to his house a mile away and brought an old alvarez with old strings)... broke one string. then another. then my preamp died. This gig was rough. Got word just before we started that a close friend (who comes up and sings a song or two at every gig) was taken off a ventilator and died. Maybe it was his ghost... Oh - and BoSoxBiker - the 2nd song is Lynard Skynard Simple Man. A song for my friend and his mom. I hate that song. And - with apologies to any who partake on this forum - Skynard does nothing for me.
5. Thanks brethren… I am not a big Zeppelin guy, but I do want her to be pleased. I sent it along to them in a text message, and my friend said she was real pleased. I hope you are all doing well. by the way I am down to two guitars. how did that happen! My D15 got injured badly at a gig… still have it but it’s decoration. I have my J45-TV and a Martin 000-28. I keep looking for a 000-18 and… gasp… Gibson CF1. But not in the cards!
6. Hey guys, my best friend of about 50 years is getting married a week from tonight. His new bride is a peach. They have a DJ but they last minute asked me if, instead of the DJ, I’d play their favorite two songs for them. I said most likely yes, but want to make sure it’s up to snuff. It’s more important than my typical bar gig. And I even have to wear a suit… I am sending it to him to make sure the bride actually wants to go through with it after hearing me first. So I ask you, if you think it’s ok for a wedding of about 75 people? I’d have to play through a small Fishman Loudbox Mini. This is the one she chose…
7. The guitar sounds great unplugged. I thought it sounded every bit as good as the J45 Studio Walnut. The pickup stinks, though. maybe look for a used J45-Studio with the LR Baggs pickup standard on the used market? Or switch out the pickup for an Element. Or a K&K.
8. Congrats beautiful guitar! Also Joe (jricc)... I havent forgotten you. I have that pickup for you. sending you a DM
9. One of the best music shares I’ve seen here in years. Fantastic.
10. I don’t know who needs to hear this, Batwing goes on natural. You cannot change this fact. I didn’t make the rules. It just is the way.
11. Brothers Music Wind Gap PA. They can restore it, or they certainly can help you with the bridge. Maybe even make you a BRAZ RW one.
12. He and Ducky’s son always have great chemistry. Thanks for the share.
13. My J45 will be the last one to turn out the lights...
14. I have... now! Maybe it's the price of lumber...
15. I love your new Gibson too!. Funny, back in early 2019 I wrote the Gibson Custom Shop because I heard they were starting up the Made To Order program… maybe I learned that from a thread here. They never responded, or so I thought. This week I found an email from them in my spam folder. They did respond after all. I had spec’d out a custom Gibson based on the J 45 Standard, with creme buttons instead of Grovers, with a batwing guard, and with several other modifications, including the neck shape. I was guessing it would cost $3500. Their email told me to hold tight, because a new line was going to be coming that would give me 90% of my changes, but much less cost. That model is the one your bride gave you! And Bozeman proved their integrity… they could have taken my money.
16. Good luck. In my guitar’s case, it was counterintuitive. The action appeared too high in the places I cared most… lower on the neck. And the solution ended up being…. Taller saddle (with the other stuff)
17. I loved the sound of that same guitar when I played it in shops… Let me just share a story though. Almost three years back I bought a used J45 TV from a guy online. When it arrived the action was ok, but it buzzed on some higher frets. If the action was raised, it was hard and tight low down. I was frustrated. I don’t have tools to measure neck relief, but I realized visually that the neck had too much bow. I took it to a fantastic luthier, and they said the prior owner played with different saddles and the truss rod too much. My luthier first corrected the neck angle. Pretty straight. Then he cut a new saddle. Taller. Corrected nut slots. Filed a fret. Boom. Magic guitar that is a joy to play… effortless. sometimes we on guitar forums read too much and think we can fix things that better craftsman should do. I am guilty of that at times, but less so nowadays. Take yours to “your guy” and let him mess with it. my luthier has told me he had to expensively fix more broken truss rods and DIY stuff from idiots like me… I believe him. And he is t drumming up work; he has long wait times for work.
18. Here is a reverb listing https://reverb.com/item/7081235-gibson-sj-300-custom-rosewood-acoustic-guitar-sj-200-j-200 I am guessing $4k?
19. I have 3 sets - havent tried them yet. Ands now i just ordered 3 sets of Gibson PBs coated.... looking forward to trying them both.
20. I have about 15 sets of strings Martins and daddarios. I will do that kidblast! Why not!
21. I wish I did as you did. Great strings for Gibsons.
22. I think they are better than the masterbilts. And of course not Bozemon magic. Both. Just really good guitars. My IBG Bird sounded closer to a Martin D15 than a Bird. Great guitar nonetheless.
23. Hey guys. I gig with my partner Mike a few times each month. During covid lockdowns, he made lemonade from lemons, and wrote and recorded a new album professionally. Shake Your Soul. Won’t you have a listen? https://mikemclaughlinwiththebennettbrothersband.hearnow.com/shake-my-soul
24. I a, struck by the beauty of this guitar. I also notice the saddle is tall with plenty of room to adjust if needed. I wonder if it’s had a neck reset at some point. I am glad JT saw this post, and that you bought the book that is the Bible for Gibson acoustic fans. one last thing… if you do not have a serious luthier near you, there are some you can still have the guitar checked out long distance. Stay away from any big box shop with that guitar. Brothers Music in Wind Gap PA restores and works on old Martins and Gibsons, from around the world. Rich and Strunk are probably the only people I’d let touch that guitar now that Mandolin Brothers is no more.
